controversies section: asian games

i am speechless for your nasty mind! it is pointless to complain a lot while you don't have enough capability to compete in the asian games!:hitwall:

This is for you Chinautum!!!

Even before the equestrian events could begin in the ongoing 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, India, which had a sure chance of winning at least two medals, has been dealt a knockout blow.

China has refused to allow entry to five of the eight Indian horses — equestrian is a rider-horse event — saying the animals have failed mandatory disease checks. Incidentally, Chinese riders stand to gain the most if India is ousted from the field. The equestrian events begin tomorrow.

The disease for which the Indian horses did not have clearances — Venezuelan Equine Encephalomyelitis (VEE) — is prevalent in the US and some Western countries, and has never been reported in India, or even in Asia.

The Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) has protested the Chinese decision.

And Dr Graeme Cooke, Director, Veterinary Division, Federation of Equestrian Internationalis (FEI) — the international governing body for all Olympic equestrian disciplines — and Dr Alf-Eckbert Fuessel of the Directorate General for Health and Consumers (DG SANCO) of the European Union have written to the Games organisers, saying that their decision to bar Indian horses is flawed
.

In an email to the EFI and Asian Games officials, Dr Fuessel, who is also an authority on equestrian diseases, has written that VEE “has never been described in South-East Asia”. In another email, he has said, “For me personally it is a big tragedy that at the 16th Asian Games in China, in the preparation of which indeed the world has invested much more than in any previous Asian Games, one of the great Asian nations (India) cannot participate for a reason that is clearly not a veterinary reason.”

In a strongly-worded email, Dr Cooke has protested the Chinese decision and threatened to take it up with the World Organisation for Animal Health, or OIE, the apex intergovernmental organisation responsible for improving animal health worldwide.

“...Therefore the FEI formally protests most strongly at the existing General Administration for Quality, Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), China, decision and will seek to make a formal complaint to the OIE if this situation is not rectified in a reasonable manner as per international norms,” Dr Cooke has written.

Two AQSIQ experts had earlier given a signed certificate saying the Indian horses were healthy and fit to travel to China. However, the Chinese authorities issued a special protocol on October 11, asking India to to test the horses for 18 diseases, including six diseases that have never been reported in India.

Major J S Ahluwalia, team captain and vice president (development), EFI, described the Chinese decision as “politics at its cheapest”.

“The Chinese have unfairly denied us the opportunity to compete. This is so unjust and unfair to the young riders who have practised day and night for the last four years for the Games,” Maj. Ahluwalia told The Sunday Express.

Sources said the Union Ministry of External Affairs was also involved in the negotiations with the Games authorities through India’s Ambassador to China.

For disease never seen in India, China denies Indian horses entry to Asiad

That is why i feel offended.

An unfinished stadium is totally different from a small but finished stadium.

I don't deny the inconvenience caused by a small stadium, but why can't people just discuss this on a case by case basis?

Why is people always trying to imply that Chinese are covering things up or conspiring to win more medals?

The fact is that the controversy caused by the small stadium is also covered by Chinese media. Chinese authority is not trying to hide anything.

And winning medals is not the objective of hosting this Asian Games. Not everyone is happy with China winning so many medals. Some Chinese official media is suggesting that China is winning too many medals and finally may kill the games. So Chinese people should not just focus on the number of the medals, instead we should more enjoy the performance of the athletes.

when the issue is covered by Chinese media too , why then few of you are so unhappy if the issue opened up for debate on this forum, and trying to hide the issue behind cwg....i mean using cwg as a excuss for asian games issues..

We would gladly have a honest discussion on any of the shortfalls of the Asian games, BUT this isn't what's happening. This is a pathetic attempt at soothing your ego and inferitorty complex.

When you cannot build well, you seek to tear down others.

Tianhe Bowling Hall , but there won`t be any spectators because there is no room to seat them.
The squeeze on space also means that only two officials will be allowed to accompany each team when the event is underway.

For your kind information we have already won three silvers, two bronzes and a gold. Moreover why don't you worry about your own country rather than worrying about India.

these are those three silvers...

1)India`s rifle shooters miss gold by a point to china..
India`s Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput won the team silver in the men`s 10 metre air rifle event at the Asian Games here Saturday. The Indian trio missed the gold by a point.
They shot a total of 1,783 at the Aoti Shooting Range. China`s Zhu Qinan, 2004 Olympic champion, Yu Jikang and Cao Yifei won the gold with 1,784 points

2)In individual 10m event, India`s Gagan Narang claimed a silver behind China`s Liu Qinan by 1.3 points , 700.7 points behind Qinan's gold-winning effort of 702...

3)10m women air rifle :
The Indian trio combined to shoot 1140, a point adrift of the gold medallist Korean who score 1141.
Chinese shooters for the bronze medal with a score of 1139

It's not their insecurities on display here.

who's insecurities on display ..?

they are making games to be played without seats for spectaters..
they are buying out all tickets by themself and not letting peoples to buy them..

if it's not security concerns , why your govt didn't wants spectaters on the venues..

The point is you are not here for a decent discussion.

i didn't reply to you until you were trying to insinuate Chinese failed to construct the stadium in time. You were not debating over the inconvenience caused by that small stadium, you were jumping to the conclusion that we haven't finished the stadium yet.

You are insulting our work ethic by saying the infrastructure is not ready without giving any proof that shows the facility is unfinished.

And i am not the one who brought up CWG, but i totally understand why someone did this. Because when dealing with Indians like you, that is the best way to shut you up. If you can't do it better than others, how the hell could you judge others?

According to the first sentence in your first post which happened to be bolded by you, it says there won't be any spectators because there is not enough room.

Tianhe Bowling Hall , but there won`t be any spectators because there is no room to seat them.

Now, i am wondering, can you read?

In all of the reports posted by you, i can't find anything related to security concerns. The security issues are totally made up by you and one of your compatriots, so why are doing this?

Is it because of jealousy? Well, that is a little obvious when you put it out in this way.

was india singled out to do the test? how abt other teams? if every participated horses need to do the test then i don't see any wrong doing. rule is rule, who knows if the horses traveled to somewhere else before GuangZhou? Did the horses pass the test??
last, it's pathetic to even link this to politic. does china really need to grab medal from anyone using dirty tricks? it's almost embarrassing to see china won so many medals already :azn:

Sales not converting to filled seats at cricket.

Guangzhou: If all the tickets are sold, the Asian Cricket Council wants to know why the stadium has been almost empty for the sport’s Asian Games debut.

“The gap between expectations and reality is surprising,” ACC media manager Shahriar Khan told reporters on Monday. “We have no idea about the tickets sale.”

Despite claims by organizers that all the tickets were sold out, only roughly 500 people turned up to watch
when the Chinese women played the opening match against Malaysia on the weekend.

“There’s no way one could buy a ticket online,” Khan said, adding that a cricket official from Hong Kong was interested in buying a ticket but he couldn’t “because the website showed it sold out.”

The sparse crowds on the opening few days have mostly comprised students from the Guanggong University of Technology, where the Asian Games venue is located.

Most of them have had little idea about the sport, but have been kept abreast of the proceedings through announcements over the public address system whenever a run is scored or a wicket falls.

Khan said the ACC had initially planned a promotional campaign about the Asian Games cricket event in nearby Hong Kong for those who wanted to travel to China.

“But when we came to know through Guangzhou games website that the tickets were sold out we thought to leave out our plans of distributing flyers,” Khan said.

China’s next big international tournament will be in January 2011 when it co-hosts International Cricket Council’s World Cricket Division III tournament with Hong Kong.
