‘Constitutional Coup’ Threatened in Pakistan : HRW

No one have bought votes.
No-one was proved to be a killer. If accused killers of Zahra Shahid could vote than no-one have the right to question to other accused.

The accused killers of Zahra Shahid were also on opposition side

Not to forget Jam Abdul Karim was absconding for 6 months before he forced widow of Nazim Jokhio to pardon him just a day before vote of no confidene

He might not be a proven killer. But he was surely a proven absconder

Shameless whataboutery.

Shameless ignorance of facts by people claiming to fight for "civilian supremacy"

Oh did she mention anything about the unconstitutional act of buying off members of parliament.

She says IK desolved parliament to remain in Power and took people's right to choose their leadership. Someone should tell her he already send name for caretaker PM and asked Pakistani citizens to prepare for elections.

And PTI has not done anything like that?

Please tell me when it has...

Shameless whataboutery.

You cannot have one side make a joke of the law, and then cry foul when the other side does it.

It's like going to a karate fight and pulling out a knife, then crying when the other guy pulls out a gun.

Both are wrong, and you cannot take a high ground keh mainay chaku nikala to doosra bhi chaku hi nikalay.

Once you've opened the door for dirty play, then all gloves will be off. That is why the law should be held strongly in all cases.

No one have bought votes.

Bhai, Raja Riaz is on video that he has got a N-league ticket for this.

Alright, I concede. He hasn't been convicted. But, he was an absconder from the law in UAE.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s move on Sunday to dissolve parliament rather than face a no-confidence vote that could remove him from power effectively deprives Pakistani citizens of their right to choose their government.

On April 3, Qasim Khan Suri, the deputy speaker of Pakistan’s national assembly, dismissed a no-confidence motion against the prime minister. Claiming that “loyalty to the state was the basic duty of every citizen,” and that the no-confidence move was a “foreign conspiracy,” Suri refused to allow the vote. Khan’s government then dissolved the national assembly and called for new elections in 90 days.

The move has plunged Pakistan into constitutional crisis. Under Pakistan’s constitution, the prime minister ceases to hold office if a majority of the National Assembly votes for a motion of no confidence – Imran Khan’s party appeared to have lost its majority by April 3. The action allows Khan to continue as prime minister until a caretaker government takes over, with neither a national assembly nor a federal cabinet.
Legal experts, journalists, and rights group have condemned Khan’s maneuver as an assault on the country’s democracy. Now the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which took up the matter on April 3, is the only constitutional body empowered to adjudicate on the legality of the government’s dissolution. A hearing is scheduled on Wednesday, April 6.

The situation prior to the no-confidence vote was already fraught. Government officials threatened to “blow up the opposition in a suicide attack” and called on supporters to go out and take “traitors” to task. One member of parliament from Khan’s party tweeted that all opposition members should be shot – a tweet he subsequently deleted. Senior members of Khan’s party have called for opposition members to be arrested for treason.

Imran Khan’s dissolution of parliament to prevent it from voting so that he could remain in office threatens core democratic principles. It infringes on the rights of Pakistani citizens to choose their government, which is protected under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The government’s threatened use of violence, allegations of treason, and abrogation of the constitution are hallmarks of dictatorship, which Pakistanis have previously endured and should not have to endure again.

Haha ro patwari ro. 😁🥳😄

Sad to say and it should be obvious to patriotic Pakistanis that in Pakistan's context, "constitutionalism is the refuge of the scoundrel".

As long as the judiciary and legal system is bent, all the high falutin talk of constitution and rights is just that - bull. Murderers walk free, politicians connive with known traitors and there is open buying of legislators yet judges, generals and intelligence agencies are like meh. What is the big deal? Indian armoured vehicles be driving up and down the mall and khayaban-ay-shamsheer but all is dandy as long as constitution is supreme. We have a sitting supreme court judge with property in a country that has given refuge to absconders such as Nawaz and Altaf and that does not even raise an eyebrow because questioning a judge's motive will damage supremacy of constitution.

There could have been an excuse if we were living in the days of Azhar Lodhi's PTV. But now everything is unfolding in front of our eyes. So there is no justification for acting like sheeps. And these are dangerous time as events in Ukraine indicate. Ukrainian people are experiencing terrible hardship for no fault of their own. But their leadership was bent. And so is that of Pakistan's. There is an eerie symmetry in the stories of Ukraine and Pakistan.

I hope plight is different.

Buying votes, definitely not an assault on democracy.

Having killers run away, and then come to vote, definitely aligned with core democratic principles.
They are framing it in a way that IK lost the elections and just decided to stay on forever a dictator for life.

How about not letting him complete his full 5 year term being against core democratic values...

Article 69.

(1) The validity of any proceedings in 1 [Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament)] shall not be called in question on the ground of any irregularity of procedure.

(2) No officer or member of 1 [Majlis-e-Shoora Parliament)] in whom powers are vested by or under the Constitution for regulating procedure or the conduct of business, or for maintaining order in 1 [Majlise-Shoora (Parliament)], shall be subject to the jurisdiction of any court in respect of the exercise by him of those powers.

(3) In this Article, 1 [Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament)] has the same meaning as in Article 66.

O mere bhai, if you are elected on an independent ticket, YOU HAVE to join a party within a certain time. That's the law.

Moreover, no MPA joined the PTI AFTER they were elected to assembly on another party's ticket.

Unless you deliberately want to be intellectually dishonest about this, there is a big difference between both.

Changing allegiances just before the elections (when the assemblies are already dissolved), while morally questionable, is not illegal.

Thank you for clearing that there was no money involved.

Oh so you're from the "It's only enticement if it's money" school of thought.

You must also think in your daily life that kisi sarkari officer ko plot dena, ya gari dena, ya us kay bete ko naukri dena in return for a favor (contract etc) also isn't corruption since no money was involved.

Well done man, you have really outdone yourself.

Killers of Mother of PTI were innocent when they were part of PTI government??

Jam Karim is or will not be absconder at the time of vote, he has surrendered himself in front of due process of law.

I never said that. I am happy they left. They have killed their own politics by aligning with PPP

Anyways like any kind of filth they have natural found refuge with PDM. The natural abode of filth in Pakistan

Jam Karim is or will not be absconder at the time of vote

Yeah he was an absconder just 12 hours before the vote. Doesn't change the fact that he was running away from the law for months
he has surrendered himself in front of due process of law.

Yeah after forcing the poor widow of nazim jokhio to pardon him

Let the people decides wgo they wish to have as PM?

Sorry. Please remind the rightwing Americans, they can't VOTE in Pakistan.

Do you seriously believe Chaudrys were involved in Corruption Queen's assassination?

No. Horse trading is supporting PTI after winning election on the ticket of noon league. PTI join karnay walay ya to ex MNAs thay ya independently elected. If PTI buys Ahsan Iqbal or khawaja asif that would be horse trading because in dono na noon league k name par votes liye hain
You just have to note the new statement from Imran khan to know what has happened.

I am with Imran Khan School of Thought:

Joke aside, to "buy" votes he doled out 50 crore to each MPA and MNA of his party, he pardoned "corruption" of billions of rupees, now elections are near and people just want to secure their political career.
