Taliban hideouts pounded, 16 militants killed by Pakistan army

Pakistani security forces targeted Taliban positions and clashed with rebels in the country's restive northwest, killing 16 militants and destroying several hideouts, officials said.

Eight militants were killed when gunship helicopters pounded rebel hideouts at Cerank Sprej area in Kurram tribal region.

Seven hideouts were destroyed in the air strikes.

Troops clashed with militants at the boundary between Dir and Swat districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and killed five Taliban fighters in a shootout.

The security forces seized several suicide vests, arms and ammunition from the slain militants.

In yet another incident, three militants were killed in a clash with security forces in Bari Kot area of Swat district, officials said.

In Hangu district, police apprehended eight suspects during a search operation, district police chief Abdul Rasheed told PTI.

The operation was conducted in Zangi Banda and Sarak Dana areas of Hangu.

Security forces nabbed three more rebels in Orakzai tribal region, officials said.

Cobras were sold a long time ago. Anyway its probably not as straight-forward as CIA sponsored or CIA's very own chums. Just links, and not just to gain intel but links that extend towards providing assistance as has been alleged from the Raymond Davis case. To what end? Well one long shot theory making the rounds is that the plan was to assist the TTP/LeJ in gaining access to an amount of nuclear tech of Pakistan's with which they can't really make a bomb, but it would be enough to have it traced back to Pakistan and enough to cause a world roar against the weakness of Pakistani nuclear safeguards. After all we can see that the US favors India as a nuclear power over Pakistan by giving it waivers from the NSG and going overtime in blocking our efforts to gain parity with India.

So if that's the game plan its still stupid that you're losing out an ally like Pakistan, but its not stupid considering you're meeting your end goals.

So the CIA pays you to kill the people they pay? And kills them themselves too? And the talibs are dumb enough to work for the USA? After the afghan war? And the fact that they are more anti american than anyone? And all the predator attacks? Try to look beyond the emotions and see some logic.

Even so, as explained its not a simple matter of arming both parties and watching the show as some people have said or as some people are defending. People are assuming both extremes, however such programs if exist would be more subtle, as they say the devil is in the details.
