An example of waste of precious resource. I don’t get why it was found necessary for him to sit in the back of the F-16 cockpit. If it was for boosting the morale, he could have fired a few rounds of a mortar.

Yaar it was because of the simple reason. COAS nay chaddi khanie thee bas.

Good point and no reconnaissance pods as well. Maybe PAC has found a way to make the camera/pods and or weapons invisible. These days everything is possible in Pakistan it seems.

If that is the case, than it should be CoAirS and not in the back seat, but in the front, flying and carrying out the mission.

NO!

Reason: it is VERY USUAL for ANY Air Chief to do the flying, as our ALL Air Chiefs have been fit GD(P)s till they retired. And they have been talking part in ops previously!

Stop over loading your common sense and come back to earth.

I'll repeat - the COAS firing a mortar round would have in no way garnered the attention that his flight in the F-16 did.

It was a good move on his part, and one F-16 flight is not going to bankrupt the country, just as one overflight in an Army chopper (which he has done as well) will not bankrupt the country.

As I mentioned in the other thread, nitpicking over nothing just for the sake of criticism.

Now if he makes a habit of doing this every morning before breakfast, then complain about 'wasted resources'.

For Gods Sake doc, i am not a Air Force guy but still, they were not going for a Photo Reconnaissance Mission, nor did they went air borne for GA (Ground Attack) Role!

i hope you are not in a hang over?

Actually they want to suggest that people should stop making use of their privileges. The emphasis is on USE not MIS-USE! Tomorrow we may find them suggesting that the PM or the President should walk his way home after he finishes office!

All the Chiefs have their dedicated crafts, now as you have pointed out if they start making (mis)use of the same by flying to their favorite restaurant a couple of hundred miles away, every now an then, then they need to mend their ways, until then......CHILL....or a more appropriate word can be BURN!

^^^ Pretty soon you guys are going to be asked to take public transport (i.e bus, rikshaw and wagon) to the front lines. :D

For the ones who are worried that we waisted money on COAS , It cost Rs 50,000- only the joy ride he took. He is intelligent why go in a Chopper and get shot down why not fly at 500 knots and stay safe last thing we want is COAS in the hands of Talibans.

Second yes a lot of Army guys have flown F-16.
My brother did 12 mission and than did a solo in 87 he flew Cobras retired as a Lt Gen running with Mushy in politics,
Lt gen Shaquat, Lt gen Ali Kuli Flew with me. And last year Army Aviation boss took a flight with Wing Cdre Amir Mansoor.

He was not on reconnaissance mission, he was not on bombardment mission, then why the hell he burnt Rs 50,000 (MuradK estimate for a joy ride)? This money does not come from the sky, this money comes from the tax payer's pocket and they have the right to know why their money is being misused for useless stunts.

Not one chopper is downed by the militants so far. They are just not capable of this. Besides if the COAS is flying in a chopper, it is not going to have a banner attached to its tail advertising "COAS is onboard".

First none has suggested that but if someone suggests that, what is wrong? The rulers of this beggar country are they really entitled to waste the hard earned tax payer’s money for their joy rides.

this is how they cook up stories. if you recalled 2007 this is how they termed the thugs as “innocent students” of Lal Masjid wearing gas mosques and brandishing AK 47s, shotguns and sniper rifles.

The same media thought that raiding the mosque was unislamic and desecration of a holy place but using it as a terror den and firing at the security forces was very much Islamic.

God really save us from this media

it really makes the hypocrites in our society stand out from the rest :enjoy:

Well guys its fact that COAS flew F-16. I saw it on TV. F-16 belongs to 9th sqrdn knwn as griffens n it is located at sargodha base. It was a F-16B with number 84608

If anybody has any objection still nw then he is on drugs.

If thats the case why doesn't any one ask Mr 1000-% why he spent Rs 28,00000 a day and that was only on him , plus his quire boy from Oxford joined him ppp spent $2000000/- on him so called future PM of Pakistan. The total estimate MIN of Foreign Affairs has said in shut doors the whole trip has cost more than 12 million $$ and the bills are still coming in. How is that for a Joy Ride.

Why are you acting like this mate? You don't know anything about anything. You don't have to have a visible recon pod attached to 'prove' that you're flying for observation. If the chief wanted someone to go and draw up maps then he could have asked loads of people do it. The point is that he wanted to survey the situation himself and get a feel of it. Also he wanted to raise the moral of his soldiers and tell them that they're not forgotten. You would have no idea how hearting it would be for soldiers manning dangerous and isolated outposts on this long mission to see a F-16 roaring around overhead and knowing their chief’s on it appreciating them.

Rs 50,000 is nothing when it comes to running air forces. My mamo blows that much in training missions on a daily basis. Of course it’s not a waste of money, all the training, flight time and sorties pay off. Flying hours is usually the difference between skilled and not so skilled fighter pilots. Don’t be over smart please…

The militants will shoot at everything they see, they dont need a bloody 'COAS banner' to find the motivation. The result on the chief's safety will be the same.

We’re not a beggar country anymore than the US is. If it gives you satisfaction to belittle your country and country-men when no one is other countries acts like this then that’s your problem. But don’t ask everyone to share your twisted inferiority complex.

Imagine sitting somewhere utterly surrounded, but then you see the birds hovering/slashing through the air above you..phew! what a relief!

You know they are not letting you go down alone! But this doesn't deter us from from going IN alone AGAIN!

BANNU: For the first time in the history of the country, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani flies F-16 and targeted militants’ hideouts. The Air Chief Marshall Rao Qamar Suleman was also accompanied with COAS.

does an army man knows how to fly F-16??

This story has to be partially wrong. If Kayani flew the F-16 and Air Chief marhal accompanied him, that would be a pretty daft move. You don't wont to put heads of Army and Air force in one plane. Another thing is that it is the Air Chief Marshal flew Mirages (PAF Falcons - PAF s' Chief of the Air Staffs). Now it is possible that when he was deputed to Saudi, he flew F-16's but that seems unlikely. You really don't want to put a rookie pilot and a Mirage pilot in a F16 and send them to bomb the militants.

Anyway, I think it is a great PR move by Kayani. It shows that Pak forces are going all out to take out the militants. At the same time it shows the importance this war has for the Army. It is symbolic that this is not a side-theater war, but is central to the Pak Nation when the Army chief flies in. Also have to congratulate him on his bravery, an F16 flight has a lot of G's of acceleration and is not for the weak hearted.

As for arguments that this not being a morale booster -India has sent defence ministers to Siachen. Heck, India even sent Aishwarya Rai there. All of that seemed to work positively for Indian forces. Can't see why it would be the other way around for Pakistan.
