COAS attends Al Khalid-1 handing over ceromony as CG at HIT - ISPR

That is the equivalent of 8 armored regiments worth of tanks which equates to roughly 3 divisions worth of armor.
:what: i am concerned.

If by 3 divs you mean 3 Inf div worth of armor, top tier tanks usually dont make way into inf divs. Inf div has usually 1 armored regiment.
8 armored regiments forming 3-4 brigade worth strength, yes.

Is it equivalent to T-90 or T-85 ?
Almost all tanks thrown in combat or inducted by forces are upgraded to some extent. So a baseline T-90 and a baseline T-85 are very different tanks from the upgraded variants. In fact, T-90 and T-85 themselves are very different tanks.

The best tanks in PA are AK series and T-80 UD, the next one is Type-85 II. Where as, in IA, the best tank is T-90.

You are truly a PRINCE 8-)

In the previous post, you put a pic of M-901 TOW carrier (officer standing infront), along with IFVs.

Now in this post, you have put pics of ANZA SAM (last 2 pics) along with GA/BS/TOW ATGM carriers.

If one looks at the PA then you see it has a requirement of

-500 Al-khalid-1- Used in plains of punjab or deserts of sindh, truly all purpose
-500 Light tanks (vt-4)- To be used in the northern regions and afghan border areas
-350 Heavy tanks (55+ tons-Altay?)- Heavy tank is best suited for the flat plains of punjab, where the most intense tank battles have always taken place.
All Pakistan needed was AK, AK-1 and AK-II (with input from Altay). There is no requirement of a light tank and VT-4 is not a light MBT, VT-5 is a light tank. Punjab terrain currently deploys 44-45 Ton MBT tanks, which means a 55+ Ton is not required.

Honestly, it's good we got this. But it doesn't give me joy one would expect. These tanks are old USSR design and obsolete and doubt they would stand against modern ATGMs. Pak Army has this job of going Light-Medium Weight Tanks when it should invest more on Heavy Weight with crew survivability in mind.
Problem is Heavy Weight wont work for in this neighbourhood properly.
Lets just imagine in few decades new unmanned armed Drone Tanks being deployed around the globe.
One these will be smaller and can be more stronger because of its compact design and with other systems. Heat Signature will be lower.
Easier and quicker to transport.
Biggest issue will be maintenance and supplies as unless Pakistan builds a strong defence industry

Eye Candy Tom Foolery Only.

Purchase of VT4 has announced the death of future of AK Program.
Personally VT 4 will come but AK 2 won't be dead. But it will not be our own design. In my opinion AK 2 will turn out to be 55 tonne version of Altay with Ukaninan 1500 HP engine and other internal systems from Turkey. Basically almost exact copy K 2 Black Panther with Ukranian engine.

Outdated and under protected regarding modern standards but for Pakistani theatre it gets the job done.
As much of indian fleet is much more outdated.
Problem lies with planning for both countries Pakistan and India.
1 Issue is economy 2nd Local Industry.
Major of current gen weapons will be obsolete in 3 decades,
For Pakistan it needs major and instant investment in Cyber and Drone development.
Large Drones swarms and better A.I will be able to change battle tides but dont see any serious investment side.
Drones are not limited just to small ucav, as everyone is starting to invest mostly in last decade so Pakistan is not that far behind.
Huge number of Umanned Armored Vehicles will be more flexible and do all roles.
Similar UUV can stay longer in enemy or your area and can be used as 1st line of defence which will Indian navy at bay far away from Pakistani shores

AK series is not outdated, the adversaries that it faces are not just "outdated" indian armor fleet, but threats from ground and air like ATGM, artillery, mortars, hand held RPGs, IEDs, mines etc. Indian armor doesnt set the standard for Pakistan Army, however Indian armor threat has to be countered, and not just through tank vs tank. Now in the air, its a fighter aircraft vs fighter aircraft, and then a SAM threat. On the ground, its very different if you see the threats i mentioned. A fighter aircraft in the air has to be downed to neutralise it, whereas a tank can be made immobile or unable to be recovered by enemy, while its still intact. JF-17 as well as AZ and AK series were made to stay afloat with economic condition of Pakistan. Its not like Pakistan is on a LEO2/M1A2 buying spree. 3 decades is a long time, technology is coming up fast and is being incorporated in current weapon systems of Pakistan.

Drones have their own limitations. Range, endurance, payload, threats, comm links etc. Tanks have their role, a role which no other weapon system can fulfill till now. A combination of weapon systems in combined arms Ops can come on top at the end of the day.
