There are a lot of undercurrents at play simultaneously... among them is future of Tibet... next Dalai Lama, which Chinese government is not only concerned about but very minutely involved in as well... another aspect is Indian economy which after covid crisis needs a real boost to survive, in fact betting and hoping that fallout will bring industry and jobs to India... so very critical for the future aspirations of the state...
Besides the above the government in India has an expansionist ideology one set in dogma and percieved grandiosity... whose very rhetoric is destabilizing the neighborhood... India by changing the status of the region itself created an excuse for Chinese... that being said ... Indian military was setting up supply lines and alternate routes for very near future conflicts ... something it's bellicose hyperbole was signaling anyways.

For China it is very important to control the flow of events post current dalai lama to once and for all resolve Tibetan discord. It also has check Indian ambitions both vis a economy and borders.

Eventhough time will tell what actually transpires... but the way I see things China is here for the long haul and for deeper strategic reasons...
