China’s military mouthpiece said on Sunday that an addiction to online game Honour of Kings among some of its soldiers could hamper their ability to fight.

“The game has already infiltrated ... the daily lives of some soldiers and officers, affecting [their] physical and psychological health on a certain level”, the People’s Liberation Army Daily article said.

“Over-addiction to mobile phone games is gradually harming the physical and psychological health of soldiers and officers. It even poses a threat to security management and could undermine combat capability,” according to the newspaper.

Honour of Kings is a fantasy role-playing game based on Chinese historical characters and developed by gaming and social media giant Tencent.

It has become the most popular mobile game in the world, with more than 200 million registered players – about one for every seven people in China – and about 80 million active daily users.

Last month, People’s Daily described the game as a “poison” and “drug” for teenagers, a statement that caused the market value of Tencent to plunge by US$17.5 billion at one point.

Playing video games has become more popular among PLA personnel since last year, when they were allowed to have smartphones in their barracks, and “not a small number of soldiers and officers have become addicted to Honour of Kings”, the newspaper report said.

Some officers were cited as saying that entire platoons of soldiers were seen doing nothing on weekends but playing the game in their barracks on their cell phones, according to the paper.

“The security threat cannot be ignored if a soldier has been suddenly called into real-life combat and yet his mind continues to linger in the game he was just playing,” it said.

The report also raised concerns about the health impact of game addictions, citing reduced immunity and strength and a tendency to be more emotional.

The article urged the military to enrich the lifestyles of its soldiers and diversify their hobbies, to prevent overindulgence in online games.

Following the state media criticism of Honour of Kings, Tencent said last month that it would restrict usage for young players, with those below 12 limited to one hour each day.

Hehehe... Nothing new here, world already knows most of the chinese soldiers are junkies.
Though i can understand their feeling, i myself am addicted to smartphone, sometimes feel like throwing it on wall and breaking it. ना रहेगा बांस न बजेगी बंसी। :undecided:
But being a soldier or in secret service and getting addicted to smartphone sucks.smartphones are making people dumb, no doubt there.

Most of these boys are single child of their parents and are pampered from their birth and lack discipline and feel entitled. And thus there are high chances of mass desertion of posts when first artillery shell falls within the audible distance during a conflict.

Try and see what will happen. PLA soldiers beat Indians to retreat even just with pushing and kicking, Indians are so weak. That's why you rarely see any Indians in the Olympics while China dominates in many events.

Young people all around the world are kind of addicted to video games and that's pretty normal, that's especially true among the people in developed countries, while Indians are still obessed with food. If India wants their troops to fight it should at least feed them enough food first.

This is true, Hitler said the samething about the Americans. Thats why we are talking in German right now. Hail Hitler am I right.

Remark about indiscipline, pampering may be part of narrative/counter-narrative, but the statement that most of the soldiers in Chinese army are single child of their parents is a FACT. And when war breaks out, it will lead to undue pressure on the soldiers from the parent side. Since the fight isn't going to be ideological, seeing their comrades(single child/grandchild of old parents/grandparents) dying for a barren patch of disputed frozen land is gonna be morale shattering. These are day today boys who like gaming, mobile phones and smoking with friends. They are not seasoned fighters. It would have been another thing if they were fighting for cities like Beijing or shanghai, where they would actually die protecting their dear ones but Himalayas are different thing.

How much do you know China's one child policy, it only largely enforced in the cities but never in the country while most of the Chinese population lived in the country back then. PLA is still a communist army which is well known for its draconian training and undisputed discipline, Chinese workers very often can brave unbearable harsh environment to make miracles reality and same goes for the Chinese soldiers who are indoctrinated by the patriotic teachings on daily basis by CCP commissar. Look at Indians, they got nothing to eat, nothing to fight and nothing to believe, no wonder they were just routed like rats when they saw PLA soldiers in 1962.

That's how we train their nerves, unheard of by western countries.

The Chinese military is shown training with a live grenade.

Keep living in 1962:enjoy:
No, in 1962 we were so poor and we suffered the worst famine in the whole human history, but Russia and US wanted to wipe us out , Taiwan was about to attack and retake the mainland, Tibet was in turmoil, we've got no modern weapons from anyone. Now we are at a much , much ,much.... better position.

Yeah. I understand, improvised. Playing video games. In 1962 they would take things seriously.

Now just throwing stones, and live fire shows to please the public.

If the government doesn't order them to open fire they won't even they were shot dead point blank on the spot. That's PLA, absolute obedience to the superiors. It's not their decision to shoot , it's the government.
