Although not the most eco-friendly option, it is really surprising how little coal Pakistan has used for electricity generation purposes, given its cost effectiveness. The below is an example of Pakistan's power mix from 2015 viz a viz India and the global average. For a poor country, Pakistan's decision of going for expensive oil as its major source of electricity generation reeks of policy failure. Yes we got cheap oil from the Arabs at one point but they have been ripping us off since then and making us reliant on their oil for our basic survival. No wonder they have shown practically no interest in CPEC.
