Chinese man sentenced to death for killing toddler after argument over parking space

BEIJING — A Beijing court on Wednesday convicted a man of murder and sentenced him to death for hurling a toddler to the ground in a case that horrified the Chinese public.

The 2-year-old girl was severely injured and died in a hospital days after the incident. Her attacker, Han Lei, fled the scene, but police caught him the following day. In court, he said he thought he had been throwing a shopping cart to the ground.

The July 23 incident in a southern district of Beijing started with a dispute as the girl and her mother were waiting at a bus stop, the Beijing court system said in a statement on its official microblog.

Well that's obviously very sad news. I seem to be hearing about more and more of these kinds of crimes happening all over the world. Not the same thing (but somewhat related) there was a man recently shot by someone in a movie theater here in the US because he was texting during the previews. The guys life was snuffed out just because he was texting!? it seems so many people have no respect for human life anymore.

This is a well known case in China last year.

The accused is an ex-convict with a long history of violence including assaulting prison officer. He is accused of throwing a baby into the ground causing death after an argument with the mother over parking space.

Chinese government decided to charge him with murder. Because any grown man would has the common sense to know that throwing baby could cause death. And he has intent to cause harm.

He argue that he do not know there is a baby. But the CCTV footage show that he took the baby with both hand, raised high over his head and throw into the ground.

The sentence is death penalty, and his friend that is the driver that drove him away from the scene of the incident were also charged with harboring crime and found guilty.

crimes are not unique to one part of the world. I posted this after the chinese guy shatterpoint posted about some local crime in India and called it the fabric of their country and people...
