Chinese language now Compulsory in Sindh Province

Looks like Omar wants Pakistan to be one step ahead of India, by not only introducing Chinese(mandarin) lessons before India, but make it compulsory. lol

Yes,so you do understand the difference between an optional language course and a compulsory one.I can even learn Swahili in India as an additional language if I thought it would do me a world of good but you will have to concede that forcing me to learn Swahili is a different thing altogether.

Precisely what I meant,and it should remain that way in India.Let the kids or the parents decide what he chooses to learn.

In fact its a good move but y not make it compulsory to learn Arabia Language, we feel proud to learn English lang but not Arabic we pray in Arabic , read Quran in Arabic then our govt should make it compulsory to learn Arabic lang in childhood because as a member said in current thread "that children brain is like a sponge it will soak every thing to which it is exposed "

In the U.S. we learn Spanish in school, why cant Pakistani schools teach Chinese?

A child's brain is like a sponge, they can easily learn new languages compared to a 30 or a 40 year old.

China is emerging as a superpower, and we need close cooperation with China. This new curriculum in our schools can benefit the next generation of Pakistan.

If the OP is right,and Chinese is going to be made compulsory in school,the I think it is going to be a grave mistake.
The schools in Sindh are already teaching Urdu,Sindhi,English.You add one more to it,with completely different script,accent,and culture and its going to be a burden.Its not only the language speaking courses,but also the literature and grammar classes that will follow.And there are other subjects to read as well.
Pakistanis are already a victim of identity crisis.Sometimes they are Arabs,sometimes Afghan,sometimes Western etc..Now you have Chinese to add to the list too.My personal opinion is the Pakistanis should concentrate on being a Pakistani and know about the proper version of their history for the moment.
If indeed Chinese has to be introduced,then it can always be kept as an optional subject and not a compulsory one.
We also have Chinese language as subject here in India,but only as an optional subject.Same goes for any other foreign language.

Making it compulsory is taking things overboard . I think Pakistanis plan to sometime in the distant future make Pakistan another province of China where every Pakistani could speak Chinese. Or atleast a client state .

Nothing further from the truth, learning Chinese will facilitate our defense, economic ties etc, our bilateral relationship with China will define the 21st Century for us. I would like to concentrate also on Turkish and Persian, these ties will be vitally important in the coming decades.

what the bloody hell, chinese?? isnt sindhi enough to bear the burden, i think this decision will miserably fail, also there re no teachers who can teach chinese, as compared to native sindhis who are easily available

Don't be negative, it is a great idea. After all we are fast becoming China's best friend so we should be able to speak their language so we can conduct business together. Chinese language is the World's most popular language and even UK and USA citizens are learning Chinese to advance their business, why not Pakistan. we are their next door neighbour and their closest Friend.

I never said , you shouldn't learn it but making it compulsory is taking things overboard and clearly there is something more to it than what you say .

You think you will achieve better relationship by making a foreign language compulsory?
Okay,then why not French,German,Spanish,Portuguese etc etc as well?Not to forget Arabic....Then you will have extremely good relations with all of them,will you?

In that case, why do we teach English in our schools. We should teach only Dari and Pashto to our children because Pakistan has a very large Afghan refugee population.

We are teaching Chinese for our children's future because China will be the next superpower and we need to communicate well with this important ally.

The same reason why U.S. is debating to teach their children Chinese for their future.

in a way its good because we pakistanis are tied to the english speaking world in trade and commerce mainly due to language barrer.
learning chinese will be difficult but will open lots of oppertunitirs of further education/jobs/tade and finding love
