LOL

What you don't understand is that it is impossible to role out 5g without first mass installing across the nation. What Verizon talked is to have field select testbed for 5g which is nothing more than commercial feasible study in which Huawei demonstrated last year and the first to bring 5g reality to network industry. 2020 is the most realistic for 5g commercialiation. Having. Big mouth and be real is important . Lol

They didn't say we would have 100% coverage by 2017. They said that was when they would/could start adding coverage. Verizon is pretty quick about rolling out stuff. They have had almost full US 4G coverage for years and before that they rolled out optical fiber to homes (I've had optical fiber + HD tv for almost 10 years..and they only started rolling it out in 2005).

They may want to roll it out quickly not because of phone usage but because of tv channel programming. They seem to be holding off offering 4K channels on their fiber lines (NG-PON2)

i guess Huawei will have a significant share in the future global 5G market.

Huawei is a really world class company. I have absolute confidence that Huawei will be one of the leaders in 5G.

There is something about Huawei's culture as a company. It reeks gold in whichever field it focuses on. I frankly can't think of one field where it didn't just thrash the shit out of its competition.

Huawei is the role model of China's non-state owned enterprises, and they are extremely patriotic and supporting China's Socialism.

From what I gather, indeed Huawei is composed of extremely patriotic individuals, who pride in being Chinese. Yet, Patriotism is not equivalent to Socialism or the support for it. From all the interviews of Ren Zhengfei, and its team, they seem pretty capitalistic at core.

China is developing 5G technology and expects to debut mature 5G standards by 2020, according to a senior mobile communications expert.

“China has always attached great importance to participating in the formulation of international standards, and will hopefully play a leading and central role in making 5G standards,” You Xiaohu, head of the Nanjing-based National Mobile Communications Research Laboratory, told Xinhua on Thursday.

China started research on 5G technology in 2013, and will probably complete a first version of its 5G standards by 2018, You said, adding the standards will become more mature over time.

5G technology will raise network speeds by 1,000 times and bring virtual reality, holographic images and other new experiences to people’s lives, You said.

Good thing is Chinese telecom will not need to pay license fees for 4G when this kicks in.

Ren Zhengfei has openly described how the Socialism with the Chinese characteristics is the most suitable development model for China.

He supports the state-owned enterprises, but they just need to weed out the corruption and to become more responsible.

But too bad you cannot read Chinese, so you can never understand the real China.

Who can read Chinese? 99% western journalists in Beijing can't.

5G Technology Testing to Begin Next Year

Ana Ablaza | Aug 28, 2016 09:42 PM EDT

Three of the Chinese telecom giants, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom have joined forces to test a 5G network, and they are targeting a release for the technology by 2020.

A development and testing center was established in Qingdao. The total cost of the 5G study is 300 billion yuan or $54 billion.

The three Chinese companies formed a joint venture with Ericsson to start the research and pilot test drone applications.

Luigi Gambardella, president of China-EU, an association aimed at intensifying business cooperation and investment in the telecom and hi-tech spheres, said that a Chinese-European partnership is important in developing the 5G technology.

"ICT(Information and Communications Technology) is a global industry and 5G is a promising area for international cooperation. I think the cooperation from the outset between China and Europe on 5G matters should be essential for the EU's 5G strategy," he said.

Gambardella said that the EU should align with China's timetable for studying 5G technology.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that they will build a national 5G network solution verification and hold testing between 2016 and 2019.

China Telecom also announced that they are working with Huawei to study 5G. A similar partnership was done between China Mobile and ZTE Corporation. Gambardella thought that since China is already gearing up, then the EU should join in as well.

"Therefore, Europe should maintain privileged relations with Chinese partners and promote joint actions both in the field of research and in the trials. Further concrete joint initiatives should be put in place step by step, such as the first 'Full 5G Cities', that could be initially located in Europe and in China," he said.

The association president also suggested that a joint China-EU 5G Fund should be formed to subsidize efforts to expand 5G network infrastructure.

The US won't be too happy about being left out of the 5G action.

I think they should be invited at least as an observer as they are the other big player in mobile.

Cute cartoon, I like it.

Economically, EU appears to be a more benign and workable actor than the US. You never know when the US decides to politicize business cooperation and defaults on its promises.

It is perhaps better to keep the US out.

ZTE Conducts High-Frequency 5G Field Tests

ZTE has completed Phase 1 of China’s high-frequency 5G field tests that include multi-user shared access (MUSA) tests as well as massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) trials.

The company said the tests show that MUSA supports random escape in under 300 percent overload conditions in uplink grant-free transmission tests, making it applicable to high-capacity 5G Internet of Things (IoT) scenarios.

In addition, the new waveforms ZTE tested (also known as FB-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) used scattered narrowband resources, making it appealing for services that require lower time domain and frequency domain synchronization.

ZTE says it is one of the first vendors to complete high-frequency tests in both indoor and outdoor line of sight (LOS) and non-LOS scenarios. In addition, ZTE’s prototype supports automatic beam capture and beam tracking as well as adaptive beam switching depending on channel quality.

ZTE is part of China’s 5G testing project that is planned by the government and led by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and implemented by China’s IMT-2020 5G group.

ZTE said the testing was part of Phase 1 of the 5G program, which includes technology R&D tests, and it will continue until 2018. These tests include technology verification, technical solution verification, and system verification.

The product R&D tests will take place from 2018 until 2020. The goal of China’s 5G testing project is to launch 5G commercially by 2020.

It it clear that China is calling all the shots for 5G technology testing and adoption.

It's good that EU is participating.

Regardless of what US (and the rest of the world) do, they will have to follow this new 5G standard if they care about IoT.

The combined Chinese and European markets are large enough to dictate how 5G will evolve.

The dragon has awaken.

China officially begins 5G testing;
ZTE successfully completes phase-1 tests of key technologies

ZTE.jpg

NEW DELHI: China-based smartphone and telecom equipment giant ZTE said that it has successfully completed phase-1 tests of key 5G wireless technologies as part of China’s 5G testing.

During the tests, ZTE took the lead in verifying key 5G high and low frequency technologies, and passed all tests of multiple key air interface technologies, including high-frequency communications, multi-user shared access (MUSA), new waveforms, and massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). ZTE also verified its unique tagging technologies, highlighting its existing expertise in research and development (R&D) as well as its strength in the 5G field.

“China’s 5G testing is the world’s first 5G test guided and planned by the government, led by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and implemented by China’s IMT-2020 (5G) promotion group. The overall testing is divided into two phases: technology R&D tests from 2016 to 2018, and product R&D tests from 2018 to 2020,” the company said.

“The technology R&D testing can be further divided into three phases: key technology verification, technical solution verification, and system verification. China’s 5G test involves comprehensive research and demonstration of key 5G technologies, and promotes the standardisation of competitive solutions, to accelerate the industrialisation process and achieve the goals of commercial 5G use in 2020,” it said.

“High-frequency communication is one of the key 5G technologies. ZTE is the first vendor to complete high-frequency tests both in indoor and outdoor coverage scenarios, and is also the first vendor performing 5G high-frequency field tests as well as mobile beam tracking field tests,” a statement said.

“Test results showed that ZTE’s high-frequency prototype performed well in various indoor and outdoor line of sight (LOS) and non-LOS scenarios, with the single-user peak rate reaching Gbps level. In addition, this prototype supports automatic beam capture and beam tracking, as well as adaptive beam switching depending on channel quality, indicating ZTE’s industry-leading position in high-frequency prototyping technologies,” it added.

ZTE successfully passed all key air interface technology test requirements. By introducing short spreading codes into the complex field, the MUSA technology proposed by ZTE is the industry’s only multi-access solution allowing for grant-free transmission and high overload, which is of great significance for future high-capacity 5G internet of things (IoT) scenarios.

Test results showed that, compared with long term evolution (LTE), MUSA supports random escape under 300 percent overload conditions in uplink grant-free transmission tests, achieving strong and stable performance indicators. In terms of new waveforms, the FB-orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (FB-OFDM) technology fully utilises scattered narrowband resources to meet the needs of different types of services for, lowers requirements for time domain and frequency domain synchronisation, and allows for low-cost terminal access. The interference power of the FB-OFDM for adjacent bands is significantly lower than that of the CP-OFDM.

Massive MIMO technology uses the innovative concepts of pilot beam and adaptive codebook feedback, achieving a spectral efficiency four to six times higher than traditional macro base stations.

Bo Gang, ZTE’s general manager of 5G products, said, “As a global pioneer in the 5G field, ZTE has been conducting comprehensive research and investing heavily in core key 5G technologies. In full support of China’s 5G strategies, ZTE spares no efforts to promote the research of 5G technologies as well as industrial development, aiming to become one of the first suppliers of commercial 5G equipment, and laying a solid foundation for the commercial launch of 5G in 2020.”
