Chinese elites don't think China will surpass the US, view the US positive

One thing I agree with Kevinx, we should have democracy. But at least, democracy helps eliminate a lot of uncertainties in the process of growth, especially in the cases of China and India, which are on the express growth track now.

Comparing Chinese provinces with countries: All the parities in China | The Economist

A map showing countries comparable to GDP outputs of various Chinese provinces. On the second tab is GDP per capita.
China is essentially just a huge eastern European country at best (HK and Macau being the exceptions). Which is not saying it is bad per se, but still a long way to go.
Some provinces have GDP/per capita levels of African fail/civil war torn states for example, Beijing province(?) being best at the level of Slovakia.

Long way to go, but so far they did a decent job. I love the socialist architecture of Chinese cities, the huge boulevards, avenues etc...so reminiscent of eastern block countries just before the fall of the iron curtain.

Too simple, too naive. We have as much democracy as necessary, no more no less.

You could do a whole lot worse than Eastern Europe. I think Eastern Europe's a wonderful place.

The latest article I read in the Economist is that China will equal US GDP in third quarter 2017. I can't remember if its nominal or ppp.

True that.

Though that is only the story of Beijing. Look at all the work needed to be done in the hinterlands.

^^ dont want to come of as negative here.

Yeah, you can work for HK gov because your leader is working for the CCP.

Let's stop here.

Public sector pay is quite good in HK actually.

ICAC is tough on corruption, and one of their alternate methods is to increase the salary of civil servants to discourage corruption.

And of course the HK government answers to Beijing. They are the national government after all. :cheesy:

You can't blame CY Leung himself. In order to become the leader of HK, they need to be on good terms with the national government.

No, current Chief Executive of HK is a member of CCP,

YoY FDI change doesn't explain anything.
Here are Worldbank data from their very own website (2010, current dollar)
FDI(net inflows) GDP FDI as % of GDP
China 185,080,744,436 5,926,612,009,750 3.12%
USA 236,226,000,000 14,586,736,313,339 1.62% US GDP has a lower dependency on FDI

GNP per Capita GDP per Capita
China 4,270 4,428 China GNP is lower than its GDP by 3.57%
USA 47,340 47,153 US GNP is barely the same or even slightly higher than its GDP
And moreover, during financial crisis, China FDI growth rate staggnated and/or even decreased, in usual year, I would assume it would be even higher.

source: I dont meet five posts criteria to post a link, but its quite easy to find data on Worldbank website.

btw, to the minimum level, I think democracy would means it shoule "we" get a say on what we deem as necessary, instead of your self-claimed Chinese democracy condition.

CY Leung you mean?

LOL, would you prefer the other guy to win? Do you know how bad he was?

And at the end of the day, they all have to answer to the Beijing government anyway. So I don't see the problem that both of them have close ties to the CPC.

like I said before, overall it is quite balanced.

what is "we"? let me just do a simple example to let you know what "we" really is.

a nation is a complex system. it is made up of strongly interacting units - people. in statistical physics, such strongly interacting systems frequently have critical phenomena, where as one parameter is changed, another may vary discontinuously around a certain critical point, and behavior is overall hard to predict. even inorganic crystals are hard to model once we cannot assume that the independent particle model works.

another example of a strongly interacting system is the human body. this is so complicated that calculations cannot be done (they're hard enough for inorganic crystals!) and doctors have to rely on experience, just like political leaders.

so why don't we have people voting on what kind of treatment your doctor gives you? why don't prescriptions go for a vote? both involve untrained people making decisions that affect others due to their influence on an extremely complicated system that they don't understand.

a nation is orders of magnitude more complicated than a human body. why SHOULD you have a voice? and do people really have their voices heard in the Republicrat "democracy"? No of course not, almost policy is set by elite think tanks. that's why there is very high policy continuity.

You know, some primitive little idiots (spoiled brats due t the forced one child policy and their siblings having been scraped from the womb by the CCP goons) are the biggest enemies of China.

They may try to jerk off and make big noises on the net, mostly under the influence of n hexane, the reality is not lost on anyone.

The same set of primitives have to talk of India even in topics which have nothing to do with India.

Obsessed creepy idiots. ;)
primitive is the world WIPO uses to define an entire nation called India, and that primitive country is made up by its people, simple logic isnt it kid?

you should feel privileged to have the rights of enjoying the basic modern life like food, clean living condition, computers and internet, which is a luxury dream to like 80% of your kind (hope none of your couisns or relatives were dead due to malnutrition or starvation``)....

with the sheer number of human capital, it is stupid to believe that China can never catch-up with U.S in terms of economic, international influences and technology, given the fact that we have one of the best stable performances for 3 decades (unlike some hotair shining thing).

so it is question of when and how hard we try.

and its not 80%. 93% of Indians are denied access to the internet.

all Indians here are part of the 7% elite Brahmins.
