We firstly need to use the mature technology (from Ukraine "Varyag" / CV16 "LiaoNing"), add new domestic steam catapult (China had researched steam catapult for many years).

Now it's time to get work done.

I have seen a no of the photos of the development of our own catapult systems on forums
I think we are researching/developing/testing EMALS ( electro magnetic aircraft launching system)
Some forumers have claimed our EMALS is deployable.
Steam system is outdated because you need to carry extra fuel for the boilers and it takes extra hours to heat the water up. It is very inefficient particularly when you are engaged in a war.
So for the next diesel fuel CVNs I may not be seeing any catapult systems until launching of our nuke CVN which will be equipped with EMALS

No 1 or 2 is not very important.
The point is whether we can be able to defend our shores and how many will be required?

My estimate:
1 East sea and 2 for SCS; So 3 to 4 in the area
1 standby for rotation, emergency, training or repair and maintenance

in total 4 to 5 in PLAN
