China's Type 052C Aegis-class Warships -- Ocean Dominance!

@New Wave, A033, Martian and others.... Easy Easy....

How long will it take to catch up US Aegis system?

I'm going to guess 10 to 20 years. Also, the U.S. is leaking technology like a sieve. It could take less time.

Federal News Radio 1500 AM: Opening statements begin in Hawaii spy trial

"Opening statements begin in Hawaii spy trial

HONOLULU (AP) - Federal prosecutors on Tuesday accused a former B-2 stealth bomber engineer of betraying the U.S. by selling military secrets to China for greed and money, but his defense countered that the information he passed on was "obvious" and "well-known."

Noshir Gowadia, 66, disclosed "vulnerabilities of our nation's most important strategic assets" and helped design a stealth cruise missile for China that would evade infrared sensors and defeat U.S. heat-seeking missiles, assistant U.S. Attorney Ken Sorenson told jurors during opening statements.

The India-born naturalized U.S. citizen did so _ and also marketed his services to Switzerland, Israel and Germany _ in part because he desperately needed more money to pay the mortgage on his mansion-like home overlooking the Maui's North Shore, Sorenson said."

1) The ballistic ASM is surface-based. It'd be nice to see it intergrated onto a ship (if the recoil of an IRBM doesn't sink it)....

2) Me, kissing up to Indians? I love the Chinese humour... If you bothered looking into older Indian threads, you'd find that I actually troll them. Many of my trolls made Indians leave the forum. I'm being much more lenient on you guys.

Likewise, if you read my post properly, I said the "seeker, tracker or otherwise" technology may be integrated onto the destroyer, not the actual mammoth itself. What I said was one thing and what you turned it into is another. Cheers

for your information, the 052C is an ANTI AIRCRAFT DESTROYER. of course it will lose to submarines. it was not designed for anti-sub warfare.

let vietnam try to get through HY-9 sea patrol plane though? or our Han/Shang nuclear subs? we had kilos 10 years before they did too, and we have an actual oceanographic department in the academy of science that is paid to do nothing but map the sea floor - vietnam doesn't even have the equipment necessary to do that.

Following the launch of two Type 052B multirole missile destroyers in 2002, Shanghai-based Jiangnan Shipyard began to build two subsequent hulls based on the same hull design but with different weapon and sensor configuration. The first-of-class 170 Lanzhou was laid down in late 2002 and launched on 29 April 2003. Sea trial began in late 2003 and the destroyer was commissioned in July 2004. The second hull, 171 Haikou was launched on 30 October 2003 and was commissioned in 2005. Both hulls are deployed by the South Sea Fleet based at Zhanjiang in Guangdong Province.

Are you sure about your claim of "anti-aircraft destroyer"? The two Type 052Bs are "multirole missile destroyers." Why would they limit the function of the more advanced Type 052C destroyers to only "anti-aircraft"?

In case anyone is wondering, China's first AESA radar "was completed in 1998."

China's KJ-2000 AWACS and KJ-200 AEW&C have AESA radars. The Type 052C Aegis-class destroyer also has an AESA radar. China's "indigenously developed Type H/LJG-346 SAPARS (Shipborne Active Phased Array Radar System) that was completed in 1998."

The current KJ-2000 AWACS in Chinese service is equipped with a domestic AESA (active electronically scanned array),[2] also known as active phased array, radar. The radar was designed by the Research Institute of Electronic Technology (also more commonly known as the 14th Institute) at Nanjing, and it utilizes the experience gained from the 14th Institute's earlier indigenously developed Type H/LJG-346 SAPARS (Shipborne Active Phased Array Radar System) that was completed in 1998. The same Type H/LJG-346 SAPARS was also the predecessor of the active phased array radar system equipping the PLAN Lanzhou class destroyers)."

The KongJing-20 (KJ-200) is an airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft developed by the Shaanxi Aircraft Corporation as part of its “GaoXin” series special-purpose aircraft based on the Yun-8 airframe. The KJ-200 was also known as “GaoXin 5” within the project.

The KJ-200 features a a linear-shape active electronically steered array (AESA) radar similar to the Swedish Ericsson PS-890 Erieye."

1) You call French sonar and M. 48 torpedoes "indigenous" and "ASW?"

2) Chinese anti-ship missiles are behind all major world navies, even India...

3) The radar-based missile defense system is cutting edge. But then again, Russia has a comparable system (inferior radar, superior missile) with mass production capacity, as compared to China's handmade systems.

So, when you say "Aegis class," you mean the sea-based missile defense system, not the other crucial aspects including, ASM and ASW.

Great system to intercept F-16 and Mirages (Taiwan), but I don't think it will stay aloat for long in the Spartly islands (Vietnam) against 6 Kilos.

And that's why oversea media isn't fussing about it; it's not a threat, yet.

PS: 052C summaries have been posted several times already... There's no need to repost them bimonthly. Any news of upgrades are welcome, though.

Do you think aegis class destroyers are built to counter underwater threats like kilos?:coffee:

China's Type 052C Aegis-class AESA is S-band with a "maximum range of 450 km, and a maximum resolution of 0.5 metres."

"Radars

The ship is the first Chinese ship fitted with a multifunction active phased array radar with four antenna arrays, with a reported name Type 348 Radar. China originally imported a Ukrainian C-band active phased array radar for evaluation, but decided that the radar did not meet the Chinese requirement. Instead, China adopted a domestic S-band multifunction active phased array radar with four antenna arrays. The radar is developed by the Research Institute of Electronic Technology (also more commonly known as the 14th Institute) at Nanjing, Jiangsu province, and it is a successor to the 14th Institute's earlier developed Type H/LJG-346 SAPARS (Shipborne Active Phased Array Radar System) that was completed in 1998. Chinese discovered that the S-band adopted by the American AN/SPY-1 passive phased array could be better suited for the requirements for the active phased array radar as well. The radar has reported name of Type 348 Radar and a maximum range of 450 km, and a maximum resolution of 0.5 metres. However, under an earlier but completely different contract, Ukraine did provide cooling technologies for the antenna to China. According to many Chinese claims on the internet, the name assigned for Type 348 radar is Sea Lion, but others claim the name only applies to the export version."

A designer or an engineer who has this kind of attitude or mentality should be executed by the firing squad and the school who gives degree to this kind of designer or engineer should be closed permanently.

Martian2, you expect Type 052C Aegis-class to outclass Arleigh Burke with the mentality above?

chinese destroyers are focused differently. anti-air and anti-sub warfare roles are separated. just like the ticonderoga cruisers in US are primarily anti-air defense.

its technically true, they can try but as Albert Einstein said himself "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

The Arleigh Burke has its share of accidents. In the following article, "The commanding officer of the guided missile destroyer Arleigh Burke was relieved of command." Also, in the second news article, we see that an advanced Los Angeles-class nuclear attack submarine, USS Greeneville, was responsible for colliding and sinking the Japanese fishing boat "Ehime Maru" and killing nine of her crew.

NORFOLK — The commanding officer of the guided missile destroyer Arleigh Burke was relieved of command Monday, following what officials earlier said was a “soft grounding” of the ship off Cape Henry Light at the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay.

Cmdr. E.J. McClure was relieved by Rear Adm. Dan Holloway, the commander of Strike Group 12. The reason for the relief is “loss of confidence in her ability to command,” said a 2nd Fleet official.

McClure, a 1987 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, has been reassigned to the Atlantic Fleet Surface Force in Norfolk.

The ship’s executive officer, Lt. Cmdr. Allen Hobbs, will become the interim captain of the ship.

The Burke ran aground last Tuesday as it was heading back to Norfolk from a training exercise, the Navy said. It made it back to Norfolk Naval Station under its own power.

Inspectors have not determined the extent of the damage.

The Burke has a crew of about 325, is 505 feet long and displaces about 8,315 tons.

CG 70 Lake Erie

"On February 9, 2001, the USS Lake Erie (CG 70) sortied from Pearl Harbor to assist along with Coast Guard boats and cutters with rescue efforts after a surfacing U.S. submarine, the USS Greeneville (SSN 772), struck a Japanese fishing vessel at approximately 1:45 p.m. (HST) about nine miles south of the Diamond Head crater off Honolulu, Hawaii. The fishing vessel, named "Ehime Maru", rapidly flooded and sank within 10 minutes in 1,800 feet of water. Twenty-six of 35 aboard were rescued. The "Ehime Maru" had been on a fishing and research mission when the USS Greeneville (SSN 772) rapidly surfaced and collided with its stern. The Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine was, at the time, conducting an "emergency ballast tank blow," a procedure used to bring subs to the surface in the event of an emergency, although in this case it was used for training, on a one-day cruise with 16 military and civilian guests."

A true Aegis system can guide practically infinite number of missiles. It can even guide missiles fired by other ships. Having it is a great help.

052C is the experimental destroyer
