China's defence budget worries Japan

neither china nor japan lies across pasific............and i was replying to that single line......

any way thanks for accepting that your country has anti india feelings for past century... dont even blame our media either in future for having anti china sentiments

Looks like you made your purpose on this thread clear with one sentence.:disagree:

China wants Taiwan back, the U.S and the rest of the world stands in the way of that, so the government is building up a military that can counter the U.S and the rest of the world.

...

xdrive, buddy, please be sane and don’t drive the nuts.

Almost every country in this world proclaims that Taiwan is a part of China!

Go asking your Aussie government for the same.

It is you who are countering the rest of the world.

We are talking about China, not Japan and no ones saying "China isn't allowed to have aircraft carriers" go back and see what we are talking about.

An aircraft carrier isn't a defensive deterrent. It's purely offensive. If a country wanted to invade China, they wouldn't say "oh we better watch out for their aircraft carrier" because it isn't a heavy defensive weapon. It's an offensive support weapon, designed to transport a countries airforce around the world and provide a mobile airfield to launch offensive attacks.

I agree offence is a good defence, but claiming a countries military is purely defensive even though it has large offensive weapons is silly.

I completely agree. China should not build an aircraft carrier, as it is an offensive weapon.

On the other hand, 10000 3.5 megaton thermonuclear warheads aimed at every western population center over 50000 people would be a powerful defensive weapon.

Of course any potential invaders will consider Chinese aircraft carriers when planing a invasion. Aircraft carriers can be used to attack military or supply bases used in the war efforts, and such power projection capabilities will make any potential providers of supply/military bases think hard before agreeing to let their territory to be used against China. Therefore the existence of substantial Chinese power projection will complicate any invasion planning enormously and thus play an important role in deterring any potential attacks.

Whether a country's military is defensive or offensive depends purely on doctrines not weapons.

So what if Chinese weapons are offensive, what right does Japan or any other country have to oppose a country military posture.

Because Taiwan IS part of China, however Taiwan is independently governed and most countries support this.
