China's AI patent application rankings surpass the US

According to Japan’s Nikkei Asian Review, China has now surpassed the United States in the ranking of artificial intelligence patent applications. In the three years from 2016 to 2018, the number of Chinese companies in the top 50 list of Nikkei AI patent applications has more than doubled: from 8 to 19. At the same time, although US companies still occupy the top three in the rankings, only 12 are among the top 50.
In this ranking, IBM took the lead with 3,000 applications, Microsoft followed closely with 1955, and Google ranked third with 1,659. Among Chinese companies, Baidu took the first place with 1,522 applications, and its ranking jumped rapidly from the previous 11th to the 4th. China State Grid Corporation ranked 6th in the list with 1,173 applications, and Tencent’s 766 applications increased significantly from the previous 20th to 8th.
According to the Nikkei Asian Review, the number of artificial intelligence patents in China has surpassed that of the United States in 2015, ranking first in the world. But this time, Chinese companies in the artificial intelligence rankings are significantly higher, which illustrates another situation: the overall development of artificial intelligence in China is positive.

据《日经亚洲评论》统计，中国的人工智能专利数量其实在2015年就已经超过美国，位居全球第一。但这一次，中国公司在人工智能的排名上大幅度靠前，则说明了另一层状况：人工智能在中国的整体发展态势积极。
