Another reason is that after a lot of patience and let go attitude, India has started standing against them and this is not going to go well down with China. Also, China does not like anybody meddling in SCS, They cant do a $hit in case of USA, what remains is India. This would also give clear signals to others such as VietNam and Philippines
But it is going to be a big blunder on their part as this will strengthen Indian ties with ASEAN and west and also they have nothing to gain from a short border war

china will only attack india if india plays cannon fodder for the US against us. if india is indeed neutral, then it has nothing to worry about. the last thing china wants is an unnecessary war and to drain unnecessary resources. china's main threat is the US, not india. but we are more than willing to lay the smackdown on india if it comes down to it.
