China warned Japan may intervene militarily if it invades Taiwan

China's rise is going to break its leg by stumbling its way onto a block of metal in the shape of Taiwan, crumbling its rise, if they don't let go of their feeble claim on the island.

TAIPEI (Kyodo) -- Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Wednesday that any contingency concerning Taiwan would be also an emergency for Japan and for the Japan-U.S. security alliance, stressing the need to keep urging the Chinese leadership not to misunderstand it.

The former leader made the remarks during a virtual appearance at a Taiwan think-tank event at a time when China has piled diplomatic and military pressure on the democratically ruled island it considers as its own.

Abe, who stepped down as prime minister in 2020 after nearly eight years in the post, also voiced support for Taipei's bid for membership of the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement, which Beijing is seeking to join. Japan and 10 other countries make up the economic framework, though the United States has withdrawn from it.

Later Wednesday, mainland China criticized Abe and said he was talking nonsense, adding it has lodged a protest with the Japanese government through a diplomatic channel.

"No one should underestimate the strong decisiveness of the Chinese people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told reporters in Beijing.

Many Taiwanese are hoping Abe will visit the island soon, as he is regarded as having been the most Taiwan-friendly Japanese prime minister in recent memory.

There is also concern within the island that Japan and China may draw closer together as the two countries mark the 50th anniversary of normalized relations next year.

In his remarks, Abe expressed concern about the rapid military buildup in China, saying the world would witness the "most crisis-filled period" in history by 2049 with an eightfold increase in China's economy and military spending.

Forging stronger ties between Taiwan, Japan and the United States "will be extremely important for the peace and stability of the region," Abe said.

"A Taiwan contingency is a contingency for Japan. In other words, it is also a contingency for the Japan-U.S. alliance. People in Beijing, particularly President Xi Jinping, should not misjudge that," Abe said.

On Taiwan's bid to join the 11-nation framework formally known as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, Abe said the island has qualifications to be a member. He also indicated he will aid Taiwan's bid to be included in the World Health Organization.

The former president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party had little to say about a potential security dialogue between Japan and Taiwan, only saying a similar arrangement between the ruling parties on both sides could "have an impact on the government."

If Japan intervenes in Taiwan, it will give China a chance to avenge Japan’s previous war of aggression against China.

Call for avenging is flimsy. The communist pushed the Nationalists into that fight with the Xi'an incident followed by shooting first at Marco Polo bridge and trying to push by force the Japanese garrison out of Shanghai. All that when the Nationalist were not yet strong enough to perhaps initiate renegotiation through position of strength. Calling for the slaughter that one walked into isn't quite a matter of avenging.

Furthermore, the Nationalists did thw bulk of the fighting but they were killed off by the communists later. So most that could still be compelled for revenge were killed by Chinese communists hands.

Avenge is actually not necessarily Pro-Chinese but of just Pro-CCP and its narrative.

History cannot be tampered with at will. Now, China does not need to mobilize to fight Japan. There are many Chinese who are willing to go to the battlefield or donate money.

If the Japanese want to die and want to subdue their country, they can try to interfere in the Taiwan issue.

If Japan does not regard China as its enemy, China will never retaliate against Japan. Otherwise, in China's words, the new accounts and the old accounts will be calculated together.

If China wants to get Taiwan, then it must be by soft power means and by the will of Taiwan people. That would be a strategic loss for Japan but because it would be a peaceful transition, then Japan can't call fault successfully. But if China loses in the soft-power realm and resorts to military force, then China will be something not worthy of trust from that point forward. Swords will be drawn. しょうがない。

Actual historians knows for the fact that history has been rewritten by every succeeding party since medieval times.
History is what the party in authority decides to teach their people, based on the needs and political agenda of the ruling party.

This is historical nihilism. You have to know that our grandfathers all experienced the War of Resistance Against Japan.

Only problem is ,your kind ,who never lived through your grandfather's era are more fanatic and offended than those who actually lived through it,the grandparents who lived through it are generally way more casual, most of their hardships actually lies elsewhere.

Japan has problems with both China and Russia.
..and with South Korea, and North Korea....lots of beef, hopefully they're hungry.

International opinion IMO will limit Japan...i dont htink the world will tolerate seeing a strong, big, violent Japanese military action AGAIN...just my guess, because no matter what, Japan will be seen as wrong, and especailly Taiwan? i feel thats Japan pocking its nose in the CHina-Taiwan issue, which i dont think they have the prerogative or right to do.
