China to take over strategic US military base in Djibouti

LMFAO!

There is truth to that statement. In fact, after their senate "voted" to close Clark and Subic, what, only 5 years later they passed the VFA (visiting forces agreement) ? I think it was their worst mistake to "kick" the US out. Well, that is subjective tho.LOL.

naaaah!!! The PI is the US of A's 51st state unofficially!!! next is Puerto Rico as the 52nd... I suppose the Djibouti Government haven't realized that with US Bases come with everything the west has to offer while the other side will offer.... well aside from money what can they offer!??! I did not mention any country's name so go figure!!!

wipe that smirk on your face @Nihonjin1051 !!!!!

Their protestation means they need more money. I'm sure a US diplomat can promise their government with "investments", and Djibouti will spread her ports open. If you know what I mean, LOL.

Hahahahahaha! Are you telepathic???

"Ports" well if you put it that way.. These moves by the Djibouti Government is just a way for them showing that they are in a "superior" position at the negotiating table. If it doesn't work out, well, good luck to them.

Djibouti is eligible for preferential trade benefits under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). In 2009, a joint venture between Dubai Ports World and the Government of Djibouti led to the construction of a modern container terminal, which enabled the growth of their logistics and services sector. U.S. exports to Djibouti include vegetable oil, wheat, machinery, and foodstuffs. U.S. imports typically transit Djibouti from origin countries farther inland, like Ethiopia. These imports include coffee, vegetables, and perfumery and cosmetics. Additionally, Djibouti’s port serves landlocked Ethiopia which receives substantial U.S. food aid. The United States has signed a trade and investment framework agreement with the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, of which Djibouti is a member. In this aspect I think USAID can play an indispensable role in continuously providing training and training funding for Djibouti's work force, which requires severe training giving the limitations in skills aspect.

I suppose the recent differences in opinion between the Djibouti Government and the United States is due in part to Djibouti requiring more USAID; the US should expedite policy changes so as to keep Djibouti under her thumb.

Anuwat, even if it was true, i dont see why we always make a big deal/exaggerate everything China does. Afterall, U.S, France, U.K, and even Japan have had military personnels and bases in Djibouti for a while. So dont see the big deal here. U.S/U.K/FRANCE all have military bases/"overseas territories" all over the world. So no big deal if China manages to have 1 tiny finally. Lol

Dumn obese yank. That's EXACTLY what you have wrong. The US builds a base, uses it and 'offers' Djibouti some old weapons and a bit of cash. Meanwhile, China builds a base, uses it, and builds the ENTIRE infrastructure of a country, roads, bridges, rail, hospitals etc etc. So what dumb motherc*nt of a yankee would pick the former over the latter? Now go eat your tasteless food.

No. The point is, you're spreading bs. The US build a 500 million dollar base and gives some old hueys. Fina. China builds the same base, and invests billions in ports, rail, roads etc. So only a country that's been bribed or threatened would chose the weak US offer. End of story. Same goes for any place on earth. Simply put, China has a LOT more to offer. The US has long peaked, China is only at the beginning of it's rise.

Expect to see China have a lot more overseas military bases in the coming years as China's interests become global. As China goes global (Chinese companies, Chinese military, Chinese people, etc) China will negotiate military bases with countries to protect its global interests.

The rise of China is just getting started.

You will hear more about China, China, China in the coming years and decades.
