China-Thailand railway under smooth construction

China may be going the slow and steady route, build what you can now (because costs go up with time), and build those things you must in 20 years when the other party is ready.

The Thai railway does seem more beneficial to China. Is China offering terms that mitigate the trade deficit or offer the railway on easier terms?

China influence in countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos are big since they are very close to each other.

I dont know whether Thai or Vietnam are able to lower their trade deficit with China, it seems it is growing year by year.

Only Singapore and Malaysia that benefits alot with trade with China, so both of them will not have any hesitancy to have rail connection to China as they produce high value added products like semi-conductors that are needed by China industries.

For Indonesia, we could be regarded as few countries that is also benefited with trade with China despite still experience small trade deficit, but the China investment is large in Indonesia in our important sector (metal down streaming). The trade with China is much more efficient done using sea transport. Basically we are lucky to be at the right distant with China, close enought to be part of value chain for products that are not produced in Indonesia but not too close that make our own local industry still can have comparative advantage to absorb our own local domestic demand.

Being at the center of both mammoth like India and China is also benefiting Indonesia. We have big trade surplus with India.

Does this mean the Chinese-Malaysia railway, terminating in Singapore is back on track?

Connecting Kunming to Singapore is just a concept, not a grand plan. So there's no really 'back on track'. Each country weighs their own priorities and decides whether to build a rail connecting to their neighboring country in a piecemeal manner.

Also, the Singapore-KL HSR's purpose is to transport passengers, not cargoes. The economic centers are near the sea and have access to deepwater ports.

Any possibility a Singapore-Indonesia rail tunnel will be built in Aceh to go all the way to the coat opposite Jakarta?

No, it doesn't make any sense. Indonesia is surrounded by sea, it's just much more efficient to trade via shipping.

The princess of Thailand is coming to China. The government that won the election is heavily influenced by the West, and Taiwanese under the instigation of the United States are influencing the election.

china need a coalition and global campaign against cia/ned election meddling.

Thailand is a peculiar country.

They have been balancing their relationship with China and US well. One of the few countries never to be colonized ever.

Thailand total exports in 2022 approximately were $290bn and imports $300bn. Forex reserves $200bn and a population of 65 million. Thailand has a trade deficit with China.

The trade deficit thing is so stupid.

Just because China has a trade surplus with products whcih are competitive against global peers, doesn't mean it's not beneficial for the other side in current international economy. The alternative is apparently more costly non-chinese products that would cut into savings of household income thus directly affecting the investment potential of the masses.

Some nations are bound to have trade deficit,it's impossible to not have that unless you are tier one manufacturing economy with stranglehold on all major technology - semiconductors, automobiles, airlines, engines and services. Having trade deficit with USa is way more harmful that having a trade deficit with China, because the value for trade in goods is way more in the case of China.

One phenomenon most people don't realize is that, what's more important for development is the heightened and increased state of trade and commerce , which is easier done by tapping in Chinese trade networks like BRI. Even with deficit the economy will grow at a higher state than would have otherwise with slow trade and commerce.

Thai Military still has control over the nation. Current Thailand, similar like previous Thailand, still has Military that is some what similar like Military in Pakistan. They like to intervene, and they also have change the constitution that will make any civilian government difficult to regain control like during Thaksin rule.

The reason of why Thai gov needs to have balance political relationship with USA and China is because they are afraid your Chinese strong influence over their nation due to China raising to Superpower statust and their nation sits next to China. So they still needs USA and Western powers, while in the past they need USA due to afraid of Communist power of both China and Vietnam.

Both of their military and civilian elites understand this, so regardless which one is in power, you will see the same balancing act by any Thai ruler.

True to a certain extent. The military has a strong influence within Thailand but calling it control is overkill.

The recent elections where democratic forces winning by a huge margin against parties supporting the military. The winner and runner up (ex Thaksin party) will be forming a coalition going forward.

Regardless, there is a consensus within the elites and military that, its better to balance relationship between China and the West.

Coming back to the topic, Thailand being in the middle of ASEAN has made the right decision to increase connectivity with its neighbours through high speed rail.

I know that Thailand has been playing balance, but it is different after the United States ordered Taiwanese to intervene in Thailand's elections. These Taiwanese are very familiar with electoral politics and street movements, and they were also present during the Hong Kong riots.

The fundamental problem, of course, is that young people in Thailand want to change the status quo, for better or for worse.

Lame Excuse

Lame Excuse

Before Thailand found evidence, I believed that the United States intervened in Thai elections through Taiwanese.

Thailand’s politics is in a limbo.

250 senators installed by the military made sure Pita didn’t become a PM, despite his party getting the most seats. His stance on lese majeste law and demonopolizing of economy made sure that the old guards (representing royalists, militarists, oligarchs) did not vote for him in the upper house.

Seems like Thaksin’s party will form a coalition with a host of other parties.

Long way to go for Thailand’s democracy.
