With the numbers vaccinated in Turkey by early April, the vaccination must have been given to 90%+ of those most at risk(65+ and those with "underlying health conditions") at least and so full protection would have been in place since mid-April.

Unless you fall into this category, you are highly unlikely to get seriously unwell let alone die.

The real-world evidence is there that the Chinese vaccine is not near-100% effective at preventing deaths as others like Pfizer/Moderna and AstraZeneca are.

The only other explanation is that Turkey is using a single dose strategy and we know from Chilean data that efficacy from a single dose is only 3% as opposed to 50-60% from two doses.

Population wise is the important thing.

Turkey locked down at 300 deaths. Infections do not matter as much if not too many people are dying.

USA has 4-5 times the population and so that would be 1200-1500 deaths, which would be unacceptable to Biden.

Even now the deaths are slowing coming down and that is mainly due to near 100% protection from death of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.


Look I am trying to be fair here - the Chinese vaccine is inferior to those available from the West and even the Russian Sputnik vaccine is likely to be much better. It is not a bad vaccine but unlike others do not assume it will give almost 100% protection from death.

China vaccines makers are working hard to ramp up their production capacity to 5 billion doses annually so that all the poorer and developing nations will get their allocations.

None of the recipients of China vaccines have rejected or returned their vaccines because they do not worked.
