Senior Chinese and Sri Lankan defense officials agreed on Tuesday to promote military cooperation between the two countries, the Xinhua Chinese news agency reported.
Wang Guanzhong, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, is currently on an official visit to the island nation.
Sri Lankan Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said the two countries have enjoyed good bilateral ties over the years with friendly cooperation in politics, economy and culture.
Sri Lanka would like to work with China to enhance military exchanges and cooperation, he said.
Wang said that China and Sri Lanka are good friends and good partners, and that their military ties have seen steady growth in recent years.
China is willing to work with Sri Lanka in deepening the practical cooperation between the two armed forces so as to further boost the strategic partnership of the two countries, he added.
