China setup its own peace prize

I think Chinese are tired of being constantly attacked. It was not an over-reaction. China is starting to say, "enough is enough."

Ok... how would starting its own peace prize help China?..particularly in this situation

Your perception.

I was wondering if ppl in Beijing were dumb enough not to have thought of this earlier ? Reacting to the Nobel prize committees decision seems odd and a poor knee jerk reaction.

The origins & stature of the Nobel Prize are way too deep to be contested, at best what China is doing will add to list of Peace Prizes nations give on their own.

I still maintain China should have ignored the issue.

If Beijing is "dumb" then why does it still run circles around Delhi in terms of foreign policy?

Get real, like you know better.

Not claiming Beijing is dumb(although they are acting all dumb in this case  ).

But a dumb country with nukes is worrisome. :s

A Chinese peace prize will show that the winner is truly deserving of winning the award. This will provide a sharp contrast to last year's and this year's winner of the Nobel peace prize.

Obama had been in office for two weeks and accomplished zilch when he won the Nobel peace prize. Liu Xiaobo is a social agitator and malcontent. The Nobel peace prize is a political tool.

The Chinese peace prize will be based on merit and lack the overwhelming political nature of the Nobel peace prize. A merit-based Chinese peace prize will put the Nobel peace prize to shame. It is an excellent idea.

No contest on the prerogative of a nation to start peace prizes for themselves - a lot of the do it.

On the underlined part above, the ' merit' will be Chinese perceptions and just as China does not appreciate others perceptions the same will apply to those selected by China.

..........and it does that how exactly? By alienating most of its neighbours who now want the U.S. back in the area? You guys managed the impossible with the Japanese now stopping the demand for U.S. withdrawal of its bases from their territory. Same with SK though that is due to your great ally, NK. Even the Vietnamese now want close ties with Washington. Singapore now advises every other country with issues with china to get close to the U.S.
Smart foreign policy.

Your argument is not cogent…why should it stop China from using the new prize as its own political tool to further its own political agenda or get even with west?

No point in reinventing the wheel. I suppose language barriers & more specifically state censorship rules would have been the catalyst necessitating a Chinese variant, neither of which is an issue with India.
yes and unlike china India does not ban you tube.:cheesy:

China will most likely award the prize based on recognizable contribution to peace. For example, someone that worked in Africa for ten years is more qualified to win the peace prize than the newly-elected two-week-old President of the United States.

We can expect China to explain why the person won the peace award. Everyone in the world knew that Obama did not deserve to win a peace award last year. This year, the Nobel committee has shown their arbitrary nature in awarding the prize to a convicted criminal.

I appreciate you stand, but is it the Chinese government's intent? at least the timing seems to suggest otherwise

And that's deserving of a 11 year prison sentence how?

Anyone who advocates the overthrow of a government is a revolutionary and deserves to be imprisoned. If Liu Xiaobo lived in the United States and called for the overthrow of the U.S. government, they would also throw him in jail.

Liu Xiaobo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Liu Xiaobo...called for...the end of communist one-party rule in Mainland China.[1]"

First Amendment to the United States Constitution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"In 1940, Congress enacted the Smith Act, making it illegal to advocate 'the propriety of overthrowing or destroying any government in the United States by force and violence.'[17]"
