What's new

China sells used Type 053 frigates to Burma and Bangladesh

ashamed is not the word to describe my feelings right.

The word is disappointment. I expected newly built Jiangwei II (053H3) but we are getting these instead

Avishek, my friend you can't have it both ways. You cannot eat your cake and have it too.

On one hand you want to lick the boots of Indians and yet expect big deals from China. As long as your favorite AL Hasina is in charge , dont expect any big deals from China.

China will sell as long as we give them money, its just business for them.

And as other members explained this will probably be used as stop gap before we get new ones.

So we are getting used ones, instead of newly built ones. How is it f...ing modernising the navy??
Uggghh im feeling f#(king sick.
New ones cost the Earth! Can BD and Burma afford them? It's all about balancing the budget!

Cheers!

our defense adviser is too busy making money and doing business with his comrade col. shaheed.

I think Bangladesh navy is supposed to get one or two 2nd hand frigates from West probably USA...

Actually, it will not be a bad idea to try and get some of the OHP frigates that USA is retiring. Of course if the price is right. In terms of hull and machinery condition, sensor capabilities they are much more capable than the Chinese frigates. Of course the Americans are stripping most of their armament before making some transfers so they are relatively toothless, however they have helicopter capability which is a must for surveillance requirements. Which BN needs for patrolling the BD EEZ areas.

Of course it finally boils down to affordability. Most of all, BD needs good OPVs which have the capability to operate helicopters. In conjunction with Dornier aircraft, they will meet BN's needs most effectively.

Is there any real confirmation of this news from any reliable source?

Most probably they'll donate us or at most we have to pay for the hull. Then it may be refitted locally with Chinese assistance...All these are temporary and immediate solutions to safeguard our newly achieved sea areas.

as bd is our ally so perhaps we can sell them our shivalik class frigs(project 17a) in the long run(at that time probably our project 17b class will be our main stay):D-
