What's new

China seems to have figured out how to make 7nm chips despite US sanctions

Even ASML starts to ignore US government order. China market has become even more important than US and others.

They know they can no longer hinder our DUV, so they gonna sell it to us.

In the next 2-3 years, they will try to re-sell their EUV to us.

China has already started the research of the EUV even before the trade war, and the trade war will only accelerate our research and development.

You must have feel sour. Even crapped Intel cant fabricate 7nm but stuck at 10nm.
You do not know what you are talking about, but that is the norm for you guys here. News for you, Intel can go down to 5nm and I know that for a fact because I worked with them on their 3DXP products. I know what Intel can do. The issue is volume production for sub 10 nm products and this is where Intel do not (yet) have the capacity.

You think that just because some of China's semicon companies can go down to 7nm and that mean you 'won'?

It can take up to two yrs before a new node is commercially accepted. Large companies can buy engineering samples and do their own testing. Smaller companies will play the waiting game and see what the larger companies publish. And that is with established semicon companies. But not with Chinese semicon companies. Everyone know that how Chinese semicon companies got their knowledge was mostly by crook and the 7nm node is no different. Then after a Chinese economist recommend seizing foreign semicon assets, now everyone is even more wary of Chinese semicon products. So while Chinese semicon companies sweat out reviews of their 7nm products, Samsung is talking about $100b investment in the US. Same for TSMC.

Do you know what is 'bazooka' testing? No, unlikely you will find what it means online. It is a slang used by test engineers on what we do at the die structure level. Not die level, but even lower at the individual cell structures themselves. Bazooka testing is exactly what the word imply: an explosive burst of electricity at the cell. Not a graduated stress but a burst intend to destroy. So what do you think products build at the sub 10 nodes will perform with the bazooka testing? And what kind of product lines do you think sub 10 nodes can be profitable if some products cannot withstand bazooka testing? Of course you do not know. But you will wank off to these news items anyway because that is all you guys can do.

I don't think that helps China win. But it helps to fill the gap between China and the West.

Its technology may not be good, but China will improve continuously

100% self-sufficiency is the most important thing.

China will dominate the semiconductor industry, there is no doubt about that. Maybe it will take a few years but eventually it will happen. Every time the westerners blocked something to China, China created it's own and became at par with them or exceeded them.

There is another area the US has a dominance in. I don't see the Chinese doing anything about it. It's the google serach engine and all associated services as well as the app market. These things are also required.

Lol.. nice BS from u. We all know the crapped you trash here. You are never a semi con guy. I though now u previous brag u r in the military. Maybe next time , u will claim u r an astronaut walking with Neil Armstrong on moon before.

Everybody knows Intel best days is over. The fact, once mighty USA even need to depend on Taiwan, a Chinese province to survive on chips

While the US has high hopes for Intel to be the savior, there are no Intel 7 class foundry chips commercially available for purchase currently and they still have to build out their foundry operations. The most advanced American or European foundry produced chips are based on GlobalFoundries 12nm," Dylan said.

Intel even can't produce 7nm yet... leave alone 5nm.

Cut the crap, Intel is stuck at 10nm. Face the facts and swallow that ego.

Let me guess, just like your 'aviation studies', you have 'semicon studies'.
Yes like you soldier semixon. Expert and bullshitter. I am a controls engineer with degree in EE, what about you?

Guys, can we stop the bickering?

We are almost certain now that China will catch up with the combined West in semiconductors by 2030 and in jet engines by 2040.

This is no big deal as China has a population that of the West combined and is run efficiently like Japan is but with 10 times it's population. China is like 10 Japan's and that would of course shatter the world order.

The variable-cycle engine that China is developing for its 6th gen fighter will be very similar in performance to the equivalent jets that the US and UK are developing.

Unless you believe in an unfair world where one country/group dominates the others, you should welcome this and I most certainly do!

I think so. Everytime America put a ban on China, it compels China to create a better version. Space exploration, 5G, Beidou system are just some examples. Semiconductor technology will be no different. Just watch this space.

This 7nm is more a hype. Certainly the smaller is better you can have more transistors in a scrambled place. However the trend is towards RISC architecture and stacking transistors in layers. It’s like construction a building with multiple floors. That’s what Apple and Intel doing.

I'm different from the above men, I don't know semiconductors, I only know cemented carbide. But I'm sure the semiconductor industry will eventually be occupied by us. We will sell chips at the price of potato chips.

Also defence equipment and international space station. The US/EU are spending the last decade or two of their technological, military, political and economic dominance. It was too long but coming to an end soon.
