China Seeks Export Licence For Lethal Drone

China is seeking an export licence for its new CH-5 combat and reconnaissance drone which is capable of launching air-to-surface missiles and laser-guided bombs.

Developed by state-owned China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics, CH-5 made its first flight in August, becoming the heaviest and strongest military drone in China.

It made its public debut at the China (Shenzhen) International Unmanned Vehicle Systems Trade Fair show in November last year.

Chinese drones “have bigger payloads, which means they can carry more weapons” than their competitors, Shi Wen, chief drone designer at the academy, told the China Daily newspaper.

Stating that China has exported military drones to more than 10 countries in deals worth hundreds of millions of dollars, Shi said that the country now plans to sell unmanned craft capable of launching laser-guided bomb.

China has also exported smaller unarmed search aircraft, the newspaper said, citing a report last year that the academy would export about 200 drones.

The following article suggests that we are negotiating for CH-4. I hope we skip it and go for CH-5. A general point, the CH-series drones have proven to be a really valuable export for the Chinese, great impact.

Pakistan likely to buy China’s drones

BEIJING: Pakistan is among the other World nations which are likely to buy China’s CH series military drones to meet their defence needs.

China Space News reported that China would deliver about 200 CH drones to domestic and foreign users. Earlier reports by Western media cited Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates as known buyers of CH drones.

The first contract to export CH drones was signed in 2003 and fulfilled in 2004, when a South Asian country bought several CH-1s, Since then, the buyer has become a loyal user of CH series drones and is negotiating the purchase of some CH-4s.

A number of foreign nations are awaiting delivery of China's CH series military drones, one of the country's most popular products on the international arms market.

The drone family, bearing the name Cai Hong, which means rainbow in Chinese, is considered by experts to be among the most lethal drones on the planet. The newest and largest capacity combat drone in the series, the CH-5, is awaiting government approval for export.

"The total value of contracts we signed in 2015 could definitely be one of the highest in terms of armed drone deals made last year on the international market," Shi Wen, chief drone designer at the China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics in Beijing, told China Daily in an exclusive interview. He did not provide a figure.

The academy, part of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp, is one of China's largest military drone developers. Its CH series drones have been sold to 20 military users from more than 10 foreign countries and are the largest military drone family that China has exported, Shi said.

The early models, CH-1 and CH-2, are small, unarmed reconnaissance craft that have a proven record in locating and monitoring targets. The larger ones — the CH-3 midrange combat and reconnaissance drone and CH-4 mid-altitude, high-endurance armed drone immediately attracted buyers seeking a powerful, affordable unmanned combat aircraft.

"Our best-selling type so far is the CH-3, while the CH-4 has also received many orders," Shi said, adding that many more countries have expressed a "strong desire" to buy CH drones, but have yet to do so because of their sluggish economies.

Shi declined to disclose which countries have purchased the CH series, only revealing the academy's most valuable sale was worth "hundreds of millions of US dollars".

What about Pakistani indigenous BURAQ upgraded version.

Buraq cannot be compared to CH-4. CH-4 is a massive improvement compare to CH-3/Buraq.

But Pakistan have the capability to build BURAQ, and they have also developed BURQ A2G Missile, Navigation system, and Data Link. So why would they buy CH-4 when they can build more sophisticated BURAG-NG, more advanced, more lethal, with comonality with the BURAQ.

WHY Import, when Indigenous Capability is there?

Pakistan can then export them also .

That is like saying India can build LCA and there's no need to buy Su-30MKI and Rafales.

Buraq and CH-5 are different and both can be inducted. CH-5 can carry a heavier load including bombs so gives more capability for more demanding missions.

@Quwa your views why not Pakistani indigenous effort as compare to import.
Pakistan's troubled economic condition limits how much it can spend on indigenous R&D. Our domestic efforts are focused on sourcing key components and systems in times of war (i.e. local licensed production). In terms of original R&D, we're not there yet.

Burraq is basically CH-3 or CH-3A, possibly produced under license, though I'm not sure. CH-4 would be an improvement, but we ought to jump to CH-5. We can use the Burraq for short-range operations, and CH-5 for long-haul loitering, ISR, and A2G attacks (good idea to invest in Small Diameter Bomb-like munitions).

Sir, your statement Burraq is bassically CH-3 or CH-3A if posted by me or any Indian member, would put into gallow and banned for Trolling Reason by the MOD. But I like your sincere reply Sir, see you around.

Burraq is the CH-3 built in Pakistan with some indiginous components.

Pakistan should get the Ch-5 and build them indiginously as well - the Burraq proved them capable of building armed drones similar to Chinese rainbow models.

it will take time. and we don't have time We are in a war "with terror" . Drones are very effective in Hilly areas of Fata, Waziristan and other tribal agencies. So instead of waiting some 3-4 more years for ingeniously developed "long range", "greater payload" drone, it will be great to directly buy them from China i.e; Ch-4 or Ch-5... By this we can save 2-3 years and even can Predict there induction at the end of this year if discussions starts now .

To admit, these are exactly the reports that i don't like ! :hitwall:

Uoooaaahhh :laughcry: ... "Deadly Chinese" drone, and these guys even want to export it ??? What a mess. :omghaha:

and by the way they even use a wrong image, since shown is a No. 611 Institute/CAC Wing Loong / Pterosaur and not a CH-5, which is even more a completely different bird.
