Well, maybe a 2013 military unification is likely possible, since China had no hesitation to militarily take back Taiwan since 1996 and 2007.

Now the US is getting weaker, and they will not fight for Taiwan.

Even Russia attacked Georgia by 2008, and nothing did happen.

They wouldn't want to, but they would find it very hard to resist. Taiwan is an extremely strategic geopolitical spot. Imagine if Chinese Taipei was under PRC control, the PLA Navy would be able to project power all the way to the SCS, the North Pacific, entire East China sea, and part of the Philippine Sea! That is the reality of it when Chinese Taipei is reunited with China.

i have mild suspicions on the timeline you've given. many taiwanese prefer status quo, the idea of peaceful unification is still distant.

But if you can't hold Taiwan and are repelled, you can certainly expect Taiwan to invite America/NATO to put bases in Taiwan making you feel encircled like never before.

Those Pan-Green folks should not be equated with the Taliban.

In fact, they would be the first to surrender during the outbreak of war.

Our military strength is always ready to take Taiwan at anytime, but our leaders are just overcalculated about everything and they don't want anything that could potentially setback our economic development.

We've achieved world standards in SSK with the Qing-class submarine. We're going to launch world class SSN Type 095 very soon. We are mass producing Type 052C destroyers and Type 054A frigates equivalent to early 90's NATO ships like La Fayette. We should achieve world class standards when Type 052D destroyer is launched next year (mass production possible by 2014-2015).

Right now, our naval power is enough to control within 500 km from coastline, including Diaoyu Island, Paracels and Taiwan. We will need CVBG to control areas further out like Ryukyu Islands and Spratlys. We'll have 3 CVBG by 2015 and probably 2 more by 2020.

China will get tougher on our unfriendly neighbors as we grow in power and expand outwards until we dominate the East China Sea and South China Sea and project power deep into Western Pacific and Indian Ocean.

And our Yakhont is power enough to send your Naval force to sea bed

hmm for the third time now, non of vietnam's missile (saved those the SU-30 can carry) can reach past 300km from vietnams shores ie: useless in the island disputes, as for the su-30's...you have 12, that it, just 12.

And don't discount that Vietnamese's Su-30 is not capable of air launched the Yakhont.

Ones vietnamese su-30 gets upgraded it will play with chinese jetfighters as if its playing with toys.... India will surely help our brother vietnaam.
