China says Taiwan not a country, Taiwan says China needs reality check

There is thin line between optimism and delusion....thinking Indo pak can have better ties is optimism, thinking that a day will come when Pakistan merges with India is delusion.
Of course this is century of Asia...but sadly China is both the driver and roadblock for this dream.
On one hand it's economy is ray of hope for Asia...on other hand it's hegemonic military and over aggressive imperialistic foreign policy is the destroyer of the very hope!!

Nobody said anything about a merger buddy, I said that if ordinary Pakistani's and Indians in the west can be friendly towards one and another, then why shouldn't this be possible for the two people's as a whole? And now that you mentioned it, if this is the case then friendlier ties are not a far stretch. Hell history has shown crazier things happen than this.
Asia is on the rise and the foundations have already been laid for closer cooperation. We have the SCO, BRICS and soon OBOR to stimulate better economic and security integration. These forums are also there to adress issues with other regional powers. And let's be honest here, India isn't exactly clean either when it comes to border issues with its neighbours, but like I said that is where diplomacy comes in.
Anyway, we are steaming right ahead for the future with OBOR, and a closer cooperation with India will only consolidate this Asian dream.

As time goes by Taiwan will be more isolated, the remaining countries will close their embassies in Taiwan and recognize PRC as the real China which the overwhelming majority of the world already have. Taiwan's economy isn't doing all too great and to survive it has no other choice but to admit defeat and agree to merge with the PRC. China is already squeezing our renegade province into a tight corner, there's no escaping. Whatever slumdogs say it doesn't matter at all. It does not influence the final outcome.

The hongkongers are even worse.
Call a HK guy a Chinese communist and be prepared for a bad time. Hk considers mainlanders animals. Popularly call them locusts.

Chinese people are racist toward fellow Chinese, but extremely united when it come to entire China, whatever the country and civilization as a whole.

This kind of racism is a strong part of Chinese culture. Chinese people don't bother with it because they have a very strong mentality. It's like a mosquito bite, and even an encouragement to do great.

Even Asian parent never say I love you toward their own children, but more negative things. Under this crazy situation, Asian children are not failure, but instead growing up into successful people.

It just a matter of time before some parts of China will surpassing HK in everything, and starting to mock HK. And then Hkers get insulted, doing better to beat out entire China, including Singapore! And the cycle repeated again and again.

Entire China is a competition between regions and sub-tribals of Han Chinese.

I don't know if you are sleeping under a rock...Taiwan is independent for decades...what's there to declare newly?
Reality is china cannot deal with a successful democratic country in its vicinity...which questions the relevance of communism in 21st century!

So are you admitting that China can push around a failed democracy like India?

Taiwanese are fully capable of defending their territory. All they need is solidarity and diplomatic support when the time comes!

Taiwan can't defend itself from China even with USA help. Taiwanese know about it, they even feel stupid to defend it too, as China is a fellow Chinese. Governed by Taiwan ROC or PRC is nothing different.

May be in the past, being governed by CCP is a doom, because some people are regarding Taiwan is the last defense of Chinese civilization, while Mao Zedong is annihilating Chinese culture in mainland.

May be Taiwan look like a loser today. But the truth, it's Taiwan who make China into a giant today. And Taiwanese are into tears of happiness seeing the progress in mainland today.

Basically it's a two "country", but one people, one nation, one civilization. It looks like two but the truth is one. Hard to explain.

India has no objection for most part of the proposed OBOR...except you know where..

What ever makes you sleep tight at night!!

Taiwan can claim whatever independent they want but problem is no other countries recognized it. They cannot even get into UN just to warm their butt.

Even India also do not recognized ROC, so what is the fuss? If ROC declare independent. Just confiscated all ROC business in mainland China and ban all export and import from Taiwan.

China can survived for weeks but not the same for Taiwan who will not survived for even a week with full banning of business from China. If you dont believe, ask the Mongolian of mighty Genghis Khan.

China dont even need to fire a missile and can crush Taiwan. :enjoy:

The day first Taiwanees set foot on the Mainland to invest was the day the unification became a fact.

Apart from troublemakers and their assets in TW no sane person believes what the politicos in TW say.

All that remains now is overt union with the Mainland. This is nearer than ever before. The PRC just wants a smooth and harmonious union. A lot of lessons have been learnt from HK reunion.

So TW is a province of China and shall remain so. No worries!

Stop spreading lie. Normal HK people don't consider mainlander as animals or locusts, except those few HK independent and extreme yellow camp supporters. But most HK people consider fake Indian refugees are rapists and thieves since just recently quite a number of crimes that were committed by South Asian in HK, including robbery, sexual assault on woman and physically assault on HK citizens.

I haven't been to Taiwan, so don't have perspective on the matter, but just out of curiosity, how does an Indian go about applying for a visa to go to Taiwan?
At the Chinese embassy/consulate or the Taiwanese embassy?
And if India doesn't recognize Taiwan, why the separate visa regime?
Confused about what the setup is between the two governments.

Does India have the so-called EMBASSY & AMBASSADOR in Taipei and the vice versa? Just check the website of India's Foreign Ministry of any such list :p:

If not then at best they have the grey, underground economic relationship  consider it as flirting around :P or some money making relationship.

Apparently the link below provides the address to the embassy

Or could just be a passport office

I'm not sure what other mechanism other than embassy or consulate that can issue business and travel visas.
Anywyas was just curious how travel is arranged under the ambiguous setup if Indian doesn't recognize Taiwan as a country!

Lai back down after China response.

In a follow-up statement on Friday, Lai said that the president was responsible for cross-strait policy and that in his role as premier, he would adhere to Tsai’s policy of maintaining the “status quo” across the Taiwan Strait.

Powell's Comments in China Rile Taiwan
In Apparently Unintended Remarks, Secretary Says Island Is Not Independent
By Edward Cody
Washington Post Foreign Service
Thursday, October 28, 2004;

Powell, in a pair of television interviews Monday in Beijing, said the United States holds that there is only one China and that Taiwan is not an independent nation. He went on to suggest that the Taiwanese and the Americans, in addition to the Chinese, are seeking to bring about the island's reunification with the mainland.
The comments, broadcast by CNN and the Hong Kong-based Phoenix news channel
