What's new

China says Taiwan not a country, Taiwan says China needs reality check

Scared of serious repercussions and resistance.

Don't want to go against US.

China now do not have the cover of cold war and Korean war, may be China is waiting for one. Who knows.

Don't think China don't want to take over Taiwan using military, they are just waiting for the right opportunity.

Taiwan is well aware of it and they often simulates a Chinese invasion
Cause we are smart, we won't risk economic disaster for both sides of the Chinese people and we first integrated their economy totally into ours and now it 's already become the fact. When China grows more powerful than US, US will withdraw on their own will out of this region and Taiwan knows what to do and unification can be completed without firing a single shot, people from both sides know that deep inside.

There is no lease in this case, so assuming its the US backing Taiwan that is the barrier to entry.
So waiting till the US is in decline or not able to support Taiwan?
You can ask US to do that and then we can see, now no one knows and probably it will never happen

Well, your argument will be true if US weakens and China becomes powerful. I'm not gonna see much of a difference even after you catch up. And you got a long way.

Actually it happens faster than I thought, anyway , no one from either side really wants a quick unification, we just want to keep a stable status quo, no one wants trouble especially when on its way of fast development, any kind of disruption is no good for us.

Do South Koreans want to unite with North Korea? Yes. Do they want it now? No. Same thing about Taiwan and Mainland China, time is still not right.

There is a large income disparity between north and south korea. It's not like unifying Taiwan and China.

Still you didn't explain, why Taiwan keeps an army when they are just waiting to be united?

The world has been hearing about US decline since 1945 - first it was the Soviets, then it was the Japanese with their LEAN engineering and products and now it is China. Every few decades there is a challenger. Best of luck.

Right - they were ethnic Chinese who had been there for generations. But preferential treatment was given only to those with a Taiwanese passport. If I remember correctly, even Japanese and Koreans were given this status.
He he he. Not entirely true. I remembered better than you. South Africa under apartiate was one of the few countries having diplomatic relationship with Taiwan.
So Taiwan was invited to participate in a military parade. That was why they were classifieds as "white". I don't think Japan and Korea have any diplomatic relationship with South Africa.

So they operate like an independent country with a flag, embassy etc, make their own laws, foreign policy, have their own currency and trade, a standing army with guns pointed towards China but they aren't a separate country?

I mean if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...it must be a duck!
So what is left? Chinese sensitivity?
Gosh. Some posters are just beating a dead horse. Taiwan and the Mainland are just an unfinish Civil war.

Plus when US military planes land the Taiwanese help us out. If Chinese military planes approach they'll get shot down.
Who is kidding whom here? Plus we have a huge PAVE PAWS radar on a mountain in Taiwan keeping any eye on the air space across mainland China. Who really thinks a feed of all their air traffic and satellite launches isn't going directly to the NSA?

The US military was on that mountain making sure it was built just right.

Are you sure that the US military operates the PAVE PAWS radar in Taiwan? To my knowledge, there are no US military station in Taiwan and the F18 landed in Taiwan's airport was a one time thing and under emergency condition. Can @TaiShang confirm this?

The US military was there when it was being built. A friend of mine at Raytheon was there the entire time helping out with its construction (he also helped with the SIVAM radar in Brazil). When it was done they handed it off to the Taiwanese. It's definitely plugged into our network.

Yes, one of the F18's landed due to an "engine issue". :rolleyes1:
However try and land a Chinese fighter jet in Taiwan and see if you get a good reception. You may get the plane back in a box.

US is fast declining and retreating from everywhere in this world, Trump only facilitates this process and some Ameircans here pretend nothing has changed ever, it's just head in sand strategy.

Now most popular belief among professionals and militiary experts believe that China will achieve military parity with US in 10-15 years time, that's not very far in the future. What would US do after that?

A aircraft landed due to an engine problem and a aircraft landed with no reason is two different issues. Firstly Chinese aircraft doesn't need to land on Taiwan's airport since it is to close to China; secondly the allowing of the F18's landing was more like a humanitarian action, if China is in US' place, the same thing will still apply, like the Hainan Island incident.

I would not be surprised if the pro KMT Taiwan Arm force is already been infiltrated.
