China says India risks scaring away investors with raids on its companies

Tbh, most countries china invests is ruled by tinpot dictatorship, and they can get away by paying under the table. Probably the first time these thieves will be prosecuted by a proper judicial system.

They can pay under the table in India too. But it is the quantum of money that the Chinese firms seem to have siphoned off that's the problem.

Why is it impossible for Chinese firms to act ethically? You are visitors in India. With our bilateral relations being what they are, they really ought to know better.

Ofcourse the ED is going to be watching you. I guess they can’t help themselves and course correct in anticipation. —- probably because this sort of behaviour is deeply ingrained in their basic psyche.

It’s ironical and comical that Chinese are feeling bad about these raids.
It is the same China where Jack Ma vanished from public for a couple of months. For all we know he might be roaming around keeping his head down and lips sealed with only one kidney. Fear of losing both can scare even the bravest.
A nation where scores of people vanish without a trace and scores lose their internal organs is outraged at what appears to be perfectly legitimate action by Indian authorities? A nation where summary trials are held and people executed for talking against papa Xi.

If Vivo is unhappy at not being allowed its tax evasion tactics then they can leave. Chinese government can assist them and deliver a massive blow to FDI inflows in India.

Few hundred millions are easy to launder by cooking books, but 8-9 billion dollars are sure to raise some eye brows. For a nation of high IQs, not a smart move.
