Being a full democracy these days means universal suffrage.

If you count pre-1965 America, a place that did not allow blacks to vote (or made it extremely difficult for them to do so) as a "democracy", than even Hong Kong is more democratic than that. We don't stop people voting based on the colour of their skin, and we don't force black people to sit at the back of buses.

And Hong Kong is not even a democracy in the first place, since we do not have universal suffrage.

That is why the communist base is shrinking and left with the top five - China, North Korea, Cuba, Laos and Vietnam.

I have always acknowledged that Mao made many mistakes, in which many of our people starved to death.

But it is no comparison to the extermination of Native Americans, in which around 100 million of them were killed in order to make living space for the white immigrants. That was a deliberate act, in order to steal their land, and even today they no longer control their own land.

Even Hong Kong's entire economy was originally based around opium drugs after they stole us from the mainland. The money that the colonialists made was incredible, and where do you think that money came from? From people who were dying of opium poisoning.

I'm not sure about the history of the laws exactly, but I do remember a lot of complaints about it from the older generation. I will get back to you on that.

Not exactly the same kind, but there were widspread instances of Indian food supplies siphoned off for war efforts , leading to Bengal Famine.

Some Villages were forced to grow crops, non-edible ones (blue-dye) which the British wanted for their textile industries , leading to poverty and starvation.

Many more examples, but can only remember a few.
