China Quietly Abandons Goal of Overtaking U.S. Economy

It’s not an insurmountable difference but it will literally mean moving heaven and earth to change the global order.

Any nation can work harder and smarter and become the top dog. USA has no monopoly on this.

China has everything it takes to be the first real comprehensive competitor to the US post 1870 US industrialization.

But while China have the hardware, a lot of US power is soft power. Their desire to reverse their demographics show they are gonna re-prevent their society soon to new priorities to maintain domestic consumption. We might only know in a couple decades of China is able to pull this off when the children born now reach working age.

Not just China. Many other countries qualify for such a lead. Work hard, work smart, reap the rewards. Equal opportunity for all.

Yes and No. As I alluded to earlier, it’s Thucydides Trap, where the entrenched power gets a vote in how it deals with a rising power.

There are 1.4 billion harder working people with higher average iq, under a more focused no-nonsense government. The country is building things more or less like the rest of world put together, and you guys are cheering that country has already abandoned its goal and would forever stay where it is, Seriously?

I will never bet against a smarter guy who is working harder than me.

Africa is full of young people but countries never progress. Same with Indian sub continent. Young people are a burden to society if they do not have good jobs and progress well. It causes increase in crime and war if there is not ample opportunities
While old people are burden no matter what

China is a manufacturing center because of its cheap labor combined with its manufacturing focus and size, such a gap will close down the more automated the manufacturing industry is, and the more the average Chinese worker wage grows.

Technologies like 3D printing, robot workers, car casting etc will make manufacturing in other countries as cheap or nearly as cheap as manufacturing in China.
Even though that will only increase the unemployment in these countries the world population is already 8 billions and the factory workers are being replaced by robots will only get things worst.

How do usa gdp stay ahead ? Print $$, to 'grow' 1% while ignoring double digit inflation. lol

Of course, the funeral, hospital, jail industries contribute a lot too & will only increase in the future.

a simple ton analysis

see Tim Cook's comments on the quality of chinese labor

It's only a matter of times IMO.

The time of capitalism is ending, though we don't know how a socialist USA will be like.

Actually old people are a burden only in western societies where there is no family dynamic. Older people are extremely valuable in Eastern society and adds great productivity. Older people look after their grand children allowing both husband and wife to work and earn more money (adding capital). They also do household chores to help their families and volunteer in various community tasks. Older people are extremely important in allowing younger families to dedicate more time to work and earning money where as in Western societies they simply put older people into nursing homes which drains the social welfare costs. Tell me how many countries are suffering right now because of older people?

In the West:
Husband works, Wife doesn't work to look after kids, Grandparents in nursing home costing country money
In East:
Husband works, wife works, grandparents look after kids and cooks/cleans and volunteers.

Old people are only a burden in the West

Now Africa, Indian sub continent etc all have younger population but are all extremely poor, malnourished and crime is rampant. Why? Young people + no jobs or opportunities leads to crime, poverty and a huge drain on the country. Most countries have problems because they have a younger population causing trouble than having issues with an older population (especially meaningless in an Eastern cultural concept).

A 3D printer in China is the same quality as a 3D printer in Zimbabwe.

I bet you think that way for the next 1 billion years even when we will have colonies in the rest of the universe and we could just summon spaceships out of our pockets.

You're the simpleton

It would free up humans and let them work at more jobs that are more beneficial than boring repetitive tasks.
