4.20 afternoon, PLA Army helicopters(Mi-8,Mi-171,S-70) have been joining aids in Lu Shan disaster area. (Seriously China still lack enough helicotpers)

4-21 5:20am PLAAF 2x IL-76 carried 200x national earthquake disaster emergency rescue teamers, 12x search dogs and tons of rescure equipments from Hu Bei province fly to Si Chuan.

Are earthquakes a regular occurrence in the said region?

I think so, the famous one is 2008 Si Chuan 8.0 earthquake in Wen Chuan county. Most place in West of Si Chuan are mountain areas, and there's a "Longmen Earthquake Zone". The earthquake occurred in the Longmen Mountain main rupture.

Interesting....well, as a resident of California we're pretty vulnerable. I think the worst in our history was in the ballpark of 8.0 as well.

White star is the location of the 2008 SiChuan earthquake.
Ya'an, the current earthquake epicenter is about 85Km South south west (7 o'clock) of that star.
Both lies in the same fault area.

2013-04-21 5:05pm Si Chuan 7.0 earthquake rescure situations

The rescure power have been into most disaster areas, but still lost communications with 1x town and 3x villages. The road from Tai Ping town to Bao Xin county still blocked, the workers will recover it this night. Other rest roads had been recovered, i mean at least Chinese workers removed all rocks on the road.
