Western agency needs a warrant to access personal information. China doesn't even have a miranda right.

You are not familiar with how Google and Apple push back at the government, refuse to give access to their customer's privacy

And you are??...

Lol... American corporations are beholden on American government and vice versa. Money and politics are entrenched corruption with lobbyist funding the corrupt politicians...

You need to learn more about the broken American political system

The Patriot Act and ICE are authoritarian legislation and agencies.

You think a police in USA need a court warrant when they stop you, ask your driver's license and check their data base on you?

LOL you think Western nations follow the rules?

GTFO here. The biggest crooks that don't give a toss about privacy is the US. Watch how Snowden reveals the facts regarding mass surveillance in the US. NSA, FBI, CIA and others don't give a toss about any act.

No you just hide your flags LOL Scumbag.

My that's a charged word. I wonder what I did to trigger you so? [emoji1] I guess I must have hit a mark somewhere.

Also you probably wouldn't want to end up on the central government database for using such a word now do ya? [emoji6]

Are you seriously this dense? If you can't tell a difference between a cop pulling u over for possible DUI to a government without civilian accountability access to your personal data without checks & balance then there nothing I can help you with.

I think you are just clueless how other countries works and blinded by your biases against China. A police can stop you on the street for ID check, stop your vehicle for many checks other than DUI, and they check their database with all your information without warrant(this shows that the governments already have databases of all of your information already, including picture ID). Thus the mere fact that China introduce new phone policy plus photo ID is nothing special as many countries already have government cards with photo ID in their system.

If you have time you can go read up on Patriot Act and maybe you can learn something.

Thank you for knowing buzz words and acronyms of American institutions.

However, I try to ask again hoping this time you reply to the substance. Having read your opinions here on many occasions, and given your preference to speak in favor of all things related to China. May I assume you would give support to your government requiring all Pakistanis to do the same? Up to changing your current Democracy to a Chinese type dictatorship with state dictating every facet of your life and no recourse to challenge it?

AND under those circumstances, I'm curious, is your preference to have like Prime Minister Imran Khan to have lifetime powers or a military head?

One would expect a Chinese citizen (hopefully lived long in Canada) to understand the difference between state/government-mandated facial identification required, stored, and accessed with no warrants on any citizen versus ID requirement to purchase specific items or travel. AND the difference between showing ID and having a government keep a repository of facial identification to be used without checks and balances.

lastly, may I ask if the Chinese have similar requirements like the western world as you've listed above, then why do they need to mandate access to facial recognition on cell phones? They have all the IDs at the point of purchase- why ask for this facial pics on a cell phone?

Actually, there are this common mistake that Patriot Act trump people's constitution right. But actually, according to Mayfield vs US, while the appeal court initial judge that FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) was indeed against 4th Amendment, but a subsequent Appeal by the government at the same court overrule the previous ruling and found the case for the government, due to the fat that FISA only applies to non-US subject within the United States, and there could not be any surveillance material obtain thru FISA and used in any case against a US National, US legal resident and US corporation, and Mayfield have no standing in Federal Court.

The gist of the case is whether or not US Constitutional right were given in blanket to everyone within United States? Or the legal right only applies to US Subject within the United States? The government argue such right exist to protect US subject as intended, which is more inline with second amendment which give "Citizens" the right to bear arms, hence non-citizens does not enjoy the right to bear arms in the US, which mean a non-citizen would not have a legitimate reason to own a firearms in the US. So, if the 4th amendment do violate the right of a foreign citizen, so would the second amendment, and other amendment as well.

However, the 4th Amendment does not including nor excluding foreign person/corporation in the US, mostly because back in 1700s when the US constitution is written, the concept of "Foreign Subject" is not adapted and everyone live within the US are considered an US Subject. Hence you may say The Constitution did not "Specifically" guarantee foreign national any right in the US.

On the other hand, FISA have its own court which serve the same way local law enforcement obtain a warrant from a judge, which it used the same method to issue an warrant, the only different is that FISC would not issue the warrant in public due to national security concern, however, under Freedom of Information Act, one can request those document when the classified status run out.

I don't know what you are talking about on ICE, because ICE is an enforcement arm for border and immigration policy not a legislation...

PS I don't approve or disapprove the use of Patriot Act, I just report the case that challenge the Patriot Act and its finding.

This is not the same thing and you know it.

When we had landlines, we did not have to present our biometrics as ID to buy a telephone from Radio Shack. No different with the modern day cell phone as I should not be required to have a logical link of my face to my cell phone. The driver's license needs your photo because of the car, which can be dangerous on the roads. All the other items in your list have justifications attached to them. So what justifications are there for the government to require my face attached to my cell phone? Other than to have an increasing control and monitor of the citizenry, no justifications at all.

Smartphone/SimCard registration requires name, address and other personal info. And these info links to other systems which identifies you, including your photo. Face photo is just another piece of information for identification, like your name, address, date of birth..etc. Smartphones in China have many uses now, including money payment and acting as a bank card and other identification items. If you register a phone, in China or any other country, then the governments already can track you, with or without face photo. When you use a credit card, have your smartphone on, make online purchases, uses Google, uses Facebook, or uses Microsoft Windows, governments already tracks you.
