Made-in-China (MIC) Tesla Model 3 sales in China did not disappoint in May. The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) reports sales (wholesale shipments, not registrations/deliveries) of 11,095, which is the highest monthly result so far and three times higher than April.

The production was also high, at 11,501 according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) via Moneyball.

Even despite those not being registrations/deliveries, it seems that the Model 3 once again will be the top New Energy Vehicle in China by a huge margin.

Made-in-China (MIC) Tesla Model 3 results according to CPCA (sales) and MIIT (production):

A comparison of production shows that BYD was #2 with 7,395 plug-ins.

The overall New Energy Vehicle market seems to have improved by 19.5% month-over-month, and it was now "only" 26% below May 2019.

  • 70,200 (down 25.8% year-over-year)
    BEVs: 56,000 (down 27% year-over-year)
    PHEVs: 14,000 (down 31% year-over-year)

The passenger car market noted a gain over May 2019, which is even better:

  • 1.639 million (up 1.9% year-over-year)
NEVs at 70,200 took 4.3% market share

BYD han has the potential to surpass model 3 sales in China. The upcoming lineup of EV is very competitive.
Tesla has been having it easy in China until now.

.
Probably Tesla should sell some to the beggar land like the jungle or the slum if they can ever afford it...lol...

But China is collapsing mate?

. . .
I bet he thinks China uses money to fake the purchase and show the world we are growing. Lololpl
Yep. To be honest I also have mixed feelings as an enthusiast and fun of domestic EV players like BYD, NIO and Xpeng, etc. I wish domestic companies to take larger shares, but at the same time I also feel happy about so many people can afford expensive cars. Tesla are just another car now, I can see many on the road when I drive, and several parked in my community. I would like to see our EV companies shining, however, it is just minor things in comparison, as they can gain market by offering more and more competitive products especially with reduced subsidies, and this is exactly what they are doing right now. But I feel much much much happier to see our economy recovered so soon and is booming again!

Electric car sales is still in trouble especially with low oil prices. It needs more years of development to be competitive without subsidies.

Not only that Xpeng P7 starts selling in June 2020.

China is an open economy, if BYD has to learn to compete, market and do proper branding. They already have the quality and technology, learn to sell and market like Tesla. Subsidized by printed wall street money for a decade and now thanks to China is making some profit.

.
Tesla should build a factory in Vietnam.

They just start to field much superior spec car. Previous Chinese EV are nothing to be excited. But this Xpeng P7 and BYD Hans are special. They have some world beating spec from longest range to most safe battery.

The only unfortunate is they are launching abit late behind Tesla 3. The battle just begin.

Tesla should build a factory in Vietnam.
To them Vietnam is nothing. :enjoy:
