China-made tunnel boring machines to help subway construction in Paris

ZHENGZHOU, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Two large shield tunneling machines rolled off the production line Wednesday in Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province, and will be exported to France for the construction of Paris Metro Line 16.

With a diameter of 9.86 meters and an overall length of about 115 meters, the two wide earth pressure balance shield tunnel boring machines were produced by the Zhengzhou-headquartered China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co., Ltd. (CREG).

The two machines will tunnel through layers of plaster, silty clay, gypsiferous marl and limestone along the Paris Metro Line 16, which is a major part of the Grand Paris Express rapid-transit metro network and expected to be put into operation in 2023.

"CREG is the first-ever and only Chinese shield tunneling machine manufacturer to help build the Paris Metro," said Tan Shunhui, chairman of CREG.

CREG has taken the largest market share in China since 2012, and topped the world in 2017 and 2018 in terms of shield tunneling machine production and sales volume.

The company has exported its products to 20 countries and regions including Italy, Denmark, Singapore, Australia and Algeria. ■

In Chinese Guangzhou are currently 76 Herrenknecht tunnel boring mashines working since 1997 Herrenknecht drilled there over 400km subways with 14lines till 2023 they will completed their job with 888km subway net and 18line... does anyone drop a not about this german made chineses success? China started to try to make those machine in 2008, roughly a decade ago, now China drilled most tunnels in the world every year. just like China started to try to make cellphones 10 years ago, and now Chinese phones are going everywhere, that's China speed.

HERRENKNECHT brought Tunnelboring mashine technology to China... you guys did not pull this out of their rear end.. Herrenknecht runs three factorys in China building TB´s...whitout Herrenknecht there would be no TB technology in China ... BTW Herrenknecht started from scratch 40years ago...the world market for TB´s is roughly 1,5billion € a year and Herrenknecht hold 1,2billion € of that per year

No one said we invented this, China also first learned high speed railway technology from Germany and Japan about 10 years ago and we improved those technologies greatly and now we have over 60% of high speed railway network in the world, that's China's speed.

China drills a lot of tunnels every year, highway tunnels, railway tunnels, subway tunnels, undersea tunnels, water diversion tunnels...
