SANY America finishes strong in 2016
Post Date: 2017-01-17

SANY America had a great year in 2016. Early in year, sales were healthy and the sales projection was outstanding in North America. In the Summer and Fall months the entire industry experienced a significant slowdown. This downturn was caused by fears about the upcoming presidential election in November. With the election of Donald Trump the U.S. economy made a surprising comeback. SANY America successfully closed a few deals in December to end the year strong.

There were impressive increases in many product lines this year. Excavator unit sales increased 32% over 2015. Reach Stackers saw a 67% growth over the previous year. Motor Graders had an incredible 250% increase in 2016!

Chinese manufacturer ships domestic nuclear power equipment to France

dd
GUANGZHOU - A Chinese nuclear power equipment manufacturer Tuesday shipped a low pressure heater to French electricity group EDF.

The product, made by Dongfang Heavy Machinery under Dongfang Electricity Corporation (DEC), is the first independently designed and manufactured Chinese nuclear power equipment to enter the European market.

The heater, 13.85 meters long, can be used to improve efficiency on 900 mW power units.

Fabrice Fourcade, vice president of EDF, said that it was the first time the group had ordered equipment for French nuclear power plants from Chinese enterprises.

Ming Xiangjun, deputy general manager of DEC Heavy Machinery, said that the company had gained knowledge on European standards and procedures through cooperation, which laid a solid foundation for future projects.

EDF is one of the largest nuclear power operators in the world. In September 2016, the group teamed up with China General Nuclear Power Corporation on several nuclear power projects in Britain.

580 ton Mobile high speed rail and bridge construction machine
February 25, 2017

A Chinese company has built a machine that has a creative way of setting girders into place for high speed rail bridges.

The SLJ900/32, made by the Beijing Wowjoint Machinery Company, is a 580 ton, 300 foot long and 24 foot wide mega machine that looks more like a train than a crane. Instead of using a stationary or crawler crane to lift the girder of a bridge from the ground and drop it into its place, the SLJ900/32 drives the girder onto the previously placed girder, slowly extends its arms to the next support platform, pushes the girder towards the front of the machine and then lowers it into place.

Global construction equipment market

The global construction equipment market is expected to grow 5% next year to 690,506 units, according to the latest forecast from Off-Highway Research.

Another positive is the anticipated return to growth of the Chinese construction equipment market in 2017. Unit sales this year are expected to come in at 104,840 machines – the lowest since 2002 and a less than a quarter of the record high of 435,070 pieces of equipment sold in 2011. However, the recovery is expected to be a gradual one, with 10 per cent growth forecast for 2017, to take the market to 115,450 units. After such a dramatic collapse from 2011 – 2016, conditions are expected to remain difficult in the Chinese market

Busy digging machines mirror expanding economy
Xinhua | Updated: 2017-03-03

BEIJING - China's factory activity expanded faster than expected in February as domestic and export demand picked up.

The manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI), which gauges conditions at factories and mines, came in at 51.6 in February, above the 50 boom-or-bust line for the seventh month, suggesting that industrial activity remains buoyant.

A private PMI report, which focuses on smaller manufacturers, also showed signs of recovery, hitting 51.7, up from 51 in January.

The excavator machinery market may give some insight into the recovery.

Sales of excavators rose more than 50 percent year on year in January despite the Spring Festival holiday falling in the month. The sector has averaged over 70 percent year-on-year growth for several months and February is expected to follow the same pattern, according to GF Securities.

In addition, sales of heavy duty trucks are nearing a six-year high.

Excavator machinery is a barometer of new infrastructure and strong growth indicates that the economy could expand steadily in the first half of this year, according to Shen Jianguang, chief economist with Mizuho Securities Asia Limited.

Rail freight volume rose for the sixth month in January. Corporate profits, cargo volume and machinery sales are all sensitive to market changes and difficult to whitewash, Shen added.

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) approved 18 fixed asset investments (FAI) with a total value of 154 billion yuan ($22 billion) in January, lower than the 184 billion yuan approved in December but higher than the 2016 monthly average of 142 billion yuan.

In addition, over 11,000 public-private partnerships had been registered by the end of last year. The majority are municipal works, transport and other infrastructure projects.

Property investment might slow due to increased regulation, but any slowdown could be cushioned by infrastructure investment, Shen pointed out.

FAI volume rose 7.9 percent year on year to 61 trillion yuan in 2016 and is likely to hit 65 trillion yuan this year, stoking concerns of a similar stimulus to 2008. A senior NDRC official dismissed these worries on Wednesday saying that China will not flood the economy with government money as it pursues more stable, healthy economic growth.

Stimuli are used to prop up weak demand in special circumstances, but FAI volume is the aggregate rather than new investment and includes investment from both public and private sectors, the official said.

China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co, the country's biggest manufacturer of tunnel boring machines by both production capacity and revenue, will ship eight sets of the giant machines to international markets including Israel and Singapore in the second half of this year, its chairman said.

CREG, a unit of State-owned China Railway Group Ltd, focuses on the development and production of shield tunneling machines and tunnel boring machines. China used to completely rely on imports until 2008 when CREG independently developed its own shield tunneling machine after six years of research.

Chairman Tan Shunhui said CREG planned to establish new operation centers in Australia, the United States and Italy over the next three years.

He said it would build sales networks and team up with local dealers, as well as handling tender and bid processes in more overseas projects, especially those countries and regions related to the Belt and Road Initiative.

"Many of these opportunities come from these markets' growing demand for subway projects, water conservation, railways, highways and underground crossings," Tan said.

He said that undeveloped infrastructure poses a bottleneck to economic development in countries and regions related to the initiative.

The Zhengzhou-based company has so far produced some 592 tunnel boring machines for both the domestic and international markets, including 25 sets for international destinations such as Vietnam, Lebanon, India and Malaysia.

CREG's sales totaled 4.86 billion yuan ($704 million) in 2016, up 152 percent year-on-year, while export volumes last year reached 370 million yuan, up 203 percent from 2015.

The company said its tunneling machines had notable advantages over traditional excavators because they were safer, faster and more convenient. They can operate totally underground, without disturbing traffic above. Moreover, they freed up staff from dangerous work.

CREG already opened an operation center in Germany to handle European contracts and others in Singapore and Hong Kong to manage its Asian and African projects. It also supplied pipe jacking machines and auxiliary equipment to clients in South Korea and Iran.

"We found that many developed markets have increasing demand to expand their metro networks," Tan said.

He said the company's next priority was securing orders for tunnel-engineering equipment from high-speed railway projects in the United Kingdom and Turin's water improvement project in Italy. The company has more than 2,260 employees, including 80 technicians carrying out consultancy and after sales work in overseas markets.

Sun Fuquan, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development in Beijing, said Chinese engineering equipment makers are set to become some of the largest beneficiaries of the Belt and Road Initiative.

"It is critical for them to enhance brand recognition and a localization process to further compete with those established rivals from Japan, Germany, Sweden and the United States," Sun said.
