Sany aims for cutting-edge tech
China Daily, November 24, 2016

Sany Group Co Ltd, one of China's leading machinery equipment manufacturers, is poised to invest heavily in the internet of things and committed to sharing its benefits with more small and medium-sized manufacturers to help drive the new round of industrial upgrading, said executives of the company.

The private manufacturing giant, based in Hunan and with headquarters now in Beijing, will invest a further 500 million yuan ($72.6 million) in five years in its data-based network to enhance its intelligent manufacturing ability, after spending 1 billion yuan over the past eight years to build up its smart working platforms.

Xiang Wenbo, president of Sany Heavy Industry Co Ltd, the listed arm of Sany Group, attributed the company's overseas expansion largely to the application of its big-data and internet-enabled industrial service system in markets along Belt and Road Initiative countries. Its products and post-service network have covered more than 110 countries and regions.

Last year, its overseas revenue reached 10 billion yuan, up 11.9 percent year-on-year, accounting for 44.2 percent of its total revenue, according to Sany Heavy Industry's annual report.

Sales from Belt and Road Initiative-related markets accounted for more than 70 percent of its international business, said Xiang. The initiative encompasses the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road plans.

Concrete equipment, Sany's star product range, yielded 10.5 billion yuan in sales in 2015, reaffirming its leading role in the sector.

"The competitiveness of manufacturing relies more on software and data, than on hardware," said He Dongdong, senior vice-president and chief process and IT officer of Sany Group.

Sany's industrial network has collected more than 100 billion items of engineering data related to its 212,549 units of equipment, including cranes, excavators and concrete equipment used around the world.

Starting in 2008, Sany embarked on the establishment of its industrial big-data platform using cloud computing technology.

"We can closely monitor the working conditions of all the equipment in operation. In case of any machine fault, our post-service team will arrive at the site in two hours and get work back to normal in 24 hours," He said.

Li Beiguang, deputy director of the planning bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said earlier this month that "the major battlefield for China's science and tech innovation is in manufacturing, the key and hard part for overall upgrading lies in manufacturing and the solution also depends on manufacturing".

IoT is expected to be an emerging selling point of Sany, along with new energy, mainly wind power and industrial projects, which reflects the manufacturer's business diversity path in line with global industrial giants, such as US-based General Electric Co and Germany-based Siemens AG.

Only by integrating with big data and the internet could a conventional manufacturer be upgraded to a new stage of intelligent manufacturing, which enables mass production with customized products and services, said He.

China had about 380,000 manufacturers at the end of 2015, the largest number in the world. However, a majority are small and medium-sized ones with limited competitiveness.

"The good thing is we don't have a real generation gap in the industrial IoT field with developed economies. Our know-how in this regard could be a great help for China's small manufacturers catching up with the tide of upgrading," He said.

LiuGong Launches the Revolutionary Vertical Lift Loader at Global Dealer Conference

CMBOL, Post Date: 2017-01-24

At LiuGong’s 13th Global Dealer Conference, the company launched its revolutionary new product – the Vertical Lift Wheel Loader. This truly new technology marks an important milestone for LiuGong and for the Chinese construction equipment industry.

The key innovations of the product are the vertical lift loader arms on an articulating frame and the mechanical self-leveling Z-bar bucket linkage on a vertical lift loader – both industry firsts.

17012401492914_0.jpg

The vertical lift was developed as an innovative way to increase customer value when purchasing a loader. Vertical lift accentuates the wheel loader’s primary function: lifting and carrying a load, by providing a heavier tipping load and a higher lift height than conventional wheel loaders of the same power and weight. Fuel costs are greatly reduced since the reduced operating weight of the vertical lift machine allows more tons material to be moved per horsepower than with a conventional radial lift machine. This allows customers to move more tons per hour for lower initial investment, and lower owning and operating costs than would be required with conventional technology. Since the vertical lift wheel loader shares its basic technology with all other LiuGong wheel loaders, the reliability and durability of the vertical lift machines equals what customers have come to associate with other LiuGong wheel loaders.

“This technology will create a new class of the machines. Our ‘truly new’ LiuGong vertical lift loader will be the first ever for an articulating frame loader. We are proud to say that we were the first to develop and will be the first to market the vertical lift articulating frame wheel loader,” said Edward Wagner, Director of LiuGong New Technology and Test, inventor and lead engineer of the technology.

“This technology is universally applicable and it is especially advantageous for stockpiling and truck loading applications with advantages in efficiency and performance” added Edward.

The idea of vertical lift loader technology was first generated in 2010 and then started and further developed in 2011. After four years of development, LiuGong expanded the team and went into final development stage in 2015. This new product will be ready for mass production in 2017.
