Japan's Abe looks like German's Hitler that revives Japanese imperial ghosts.

It's not that Japan did not apologize. It's that nothing meaningful in their regrets.

Words for the suffering over Japanese brutality should not be used lightly. The meaning should be deep down into the national psyche, not a few reluctant syllables for the sake of saying that an apology was issued.

Japans superficial understanding of the war and a total reluctance to own up to accountability is what causes all the bad blood in East Asia.

As a matter of fact, Germany did apologize to the Jews, and they were forgiven and things moved on since. Japan needs to own up for the atrocities and grievances caused.

And Germany is paying compensations to the aggrieved to this recent day

On top of all that, sporting the Nazi symbol and waving the Nazi flag is a no-no. On the other hand, some nations think it is quite ok and appropriate to use the imperial Japanese flag. They both committed similar atrocities, but one is being looked at with a blind eye.

What about the British Opium Wars? That led to deaths of millions of Chinese and tens of millions becoming influenced by addiction ? The great shame? Did England apologize? Did England apologize for the slave-like conditions they kept the proud Indian people working to make opium destined for China?

Of course not.

They are glorified by modern culture and media. No one even talks about these things.

Oh but a las, when it comes to Japan ? Evil, Imperialist, Island Invader, Eternal enemy of China blah blah blah.

That's not to be easily forgotten, either. But I do not think there is a double-standard here. For one, Japan is a close neighbor, an historical one, while Britain is a far away land. They are so far away while Japan is always just nearby. I guess we need to take into consideration the historical-geographical consciousness. I would be surprised if it would be the other way round.

For another, the British did it like, well, the British. They are no less colonialist and their history is no less blood-stained than other colonialists, but, they are already backtracked, confined into a tiny island, leaving the leadership to the US. Japan has always loomed large in the region, and mostly in a good sense, and held/shared regional leadership.
