China 'committed' to develop military ties with India

Sounding upbeat over the resumption of defence exchanges with India, China today said it was "vigorously committed" to developing military ties with its "important neighbour" and was ready to resolve the visa row through friendly consultation.

Replying to a question on the resumption of defence exchanges agreed upon at yesterday's meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chinese president Hu Jintao on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lie told a media briefing that China always valued military ties with India.

" India is an important neighbour of China. China is vigorously committed to developing military to military relations with India," Hong said.

After a considerable pause, India is set to restore full defence cooperation with China, with a high-level Indian military delegation expected to visit this country in June.

"China always values our military exchanges with India and believes the two sides could proceed from the overall interest of bilateral relations, follow the principal of seeking a common ground while solving differences to promote sound and stable development of military relations," the spokesman said.

The Indian decision comes amid apparent moves by China to reverse its two-year policy of giving stapled visas to people hailing from Jammu and Kashmir.

To a question on whether China has ended the policy of issuing stapled visas to Kashmiri residents in India, Hong said: "I would like to point out that for issues relating to people to people exchanges in our relations, we are ready to properly solve this issue through friendly consultation".

The proper interpretation is this: China and India ties are actually very very bad. But some faction of Indians support peace with China (though not MMS personally). China is trying to reach out to these people and give peace a chance. It's a carrot and stick game. The carrot is a place for India in BRICS and a good future for the populous developing country. Forget about being China / Russia's equal in UNSC, maybe a consolation prize as a non-veto permanent member if you're lucky.

If this doesn't work (and I doubt it will personally), then PLA it seems are already operating in Pakistan Administered Kashmir. Why will India not take this carrot? We can see it in the Indian media. India prefers to listen to sycophantic West flattering India about being the #1 Asian superpower (democracy to boot) and beating China to avenge '62 and then dominate Pakistan and the subcontinent. In other words, unrealistic dreams of superpower destine India to be China's strategic foe.

Vishu crackers!

china wants coorperation as long as its core interests are not challenged

It will not be easy to form military cooperation with India who continues to illegally occupy China's South Tibet (Arunachal Pradesh). Beijing ought to get that land back as soon as possible.

Thats even less likely to happen than declaring new delhi as an independent country. The chinese govt have shifted their focus as of late. There is no push to reclaim AP and the frevor seems to have died down. Inter state migration has increased three folds. We are witnessing a great many NE inhabitants meld into the mainstream india and a great many indians from eastern/southern states settle permanently in NE. As far as AP goes, i think the chinese claim to it is almost over.

its not easy to do so``nowadays territory issues can not be solved easily especially by any means of violence`it will only complicate any situation.

but to build mutual trust is the first step to acheive that

The actual interpretation is as follows:-
1. There is not much that China can do about the so called Indian occupation of South Tibet.
2. However, India is still hurting from 1962. Even though 1962 can not be repeated ever again.
3. So it is better to keep India guessing and keep India on its toes by these small tricks like stapled visas etc.
4. However, never annoy India to the point that they really get worked up as then they can do a lot of damage in Tibet and East Turkmenistan.
5. So, take a step ahead and then a step back. Keep the enemy off balance always. Confucius, Sun Tzu............ Just as the enemy is about to take a step, you step back.... so the enemy will be disarmed.

The lessons for India:-
The game of chess was invented in Russia. The Chinese learned chess from the Russians. India has some grand masters also. Induct some good chess players in the foreign ministry.

India has been trying to interfere in Tibet for over half a century, ever since 1959.

You've already done all that you can do.

Is that what the CPC tells the Chinese ?

India has never ever interfered in the affairs of Tibet. We just gave sanctuary to a non-violent group of Buddhist monks who were fleeing for their lives from repression.

How about the Tibetan army you recruited with the help of the CIA? The so called "free" Indian press isn't very good about the telling the Indian people the real history is it? Has it covered the real reason for the '62 war? Or are you told it's all China's fault?

I live in Hong Kong, I don't get "told" things by the CPC.

I read international sources, none of which question the fact that India has been hosting our largest separatist group for over half a century.

How many acts of terrorism in China has been traced back to the Tibetan refugees in India who were supported by the RAW.

Tell once incident, one bomb blast etc. Hell these poor refugees are not even allowed to indulge in political (read Anti-China) activities in India. These ppl are not even allowed to protests against China for more than an hour before the police bundles them away.

No pls don't give this shyt of India supporting the Tibetan movement. If you want to see someone supporting something refer Pakistan's support of the Kashmir movement. Now that is support.
