China blocks Brahmaputra tributary

Why just 1 tributary, we say block all the tributaries and it makes no difference to india as brahmaputra makes 70 % of it in india itself. And it flows through water abundant region, i.e north east india.

If at all india gets a precedence to do the same on indus.
Just feel sorry for bangladesh though communst chinese shows no value for human life in bangladesh and wants to take their share as well.

BTW I still dont believe Chinese will do anything that goes against BD. We dont want to see our one of the three biggest rivers Jamuna dying due to some dams. We are already hit severely due to Farakka dam and more recent due to dams over Teesta river. This is totally Un justice!

India will keep a close watch on the flow in the Brahmaputra river in coming weeks after China announced it was blocking one of its tributaries in Tibet to construct the country’s most expensive hydroelectric projects.

On Friday, China said it was blocking the Xiabuqu river, one of the many tributaries of the Yarlung Zangbo, (which is how the Brahmaputra is known in China) to build a dam as part of the Lalho hydroelectric project at Xigase in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The Brahmaputra, one of India’s major rivers, originates in Tibet and flows into Arunachal Pradesh and Assam before going into Bangladesh.

The impact of the blocking of the river wasn’t immediately clear – or whether it would have any impact at all – but coming against the backdrop of the spat between New Delhi and Islamabad over the Indus Waters Treaty, the news is expected to ruffle more than diplomatic feathers in India.

Like the Brahmaputra, the Indus too originates in the Tibetan plateau in China.

But Indians say Brahmaputra does not originate from china so I think this news is false.

This tributary contributes less than 1% of Brahmaputra's water.
Infact 70% of Brahmaputra water is generated within India itself with only 3% coming from Bhutan & 27% from China.
On top of that NE India is 40% water surplus.

Never take Indian media's idiocy seriously. It's true that the river has to be blocked in orde to build the dam. However a diversionary channel is constructed for the water to bypass the dam site. River water does not stop flowing.

Dams are build to store water and in case of hydro powerplant the flow of water will be limited

China can block entire water of Bramhautra if it wishes. Wont effect us much...but if we start damming Indus tributaries, you Pakistanis wont have much to smile.

Comon , you are breaking hearts of pakistanis here if you say you are not blocking the river.
Don't you see them praying and celebrating china is indeed blocking this tributary, and then you had to come and drown them in same water by saying that china is not blocking any water.
