This is about Mongolia, and China is cleaning its backyard, which is none of your business.
Varyag was just an empty hull when it was towed in the port of Dalian, while Gorshkov has everything left.
Varyag got 60-70% completed before the collapse of USSR, after Ukraine has dismantled almost every parts of the ship to sell it for money, and only an empty hull left when China got to sign the deal.
To refit Varyag is a much greater amount of work than to refit that tiny Gorshkov.
And Varyag is in fact an improved model of Kuznetsov, it got 15 meters longer than her older sister, so its displacement is likely being much larger, 75000-80000 tons is most likely.
that logic is little bit flawed. That deal was plagued with uncertainties due to increase of cost.thats a big reason of delay.plus,Gorshkov was going under massive refit, much much more than varayag.extensive amount of refit took a lot of time.remember,Gorshkov was a carrier cruiser, which could carry helicopters, not aircraft.they have to convert it to an aircraft carrier.
plus russia will start to buld a 80000 tons(approx) nuclear powered Aircraft carrier by 2017.thats much bigger than Varayag and close to super carriers.
