probably one of the baddest-a$$ pictures I've seen, snapped in S. Waziristan. Unsure if it was already posted.

Please note that the picture is taken from an article (full page) pertaining to ISI. Reasonably fair for the most part, with the usual touch of Western masala to it. I intend to scan that as well --and I would apologize in advance for some qeema/salan stains.

Oman, Muscat - February 23, 2011:

Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, met here today with the Chief of Staff of Sultan’s Armed Forces. He also had a meeting with US military leaders to discuss regional security issues and explore new ways to better coordinate military operations.

The meeting was attended by US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen; US Central Command Commander, General James Mattis; US Special Operations Command Commander, Admiral Eric Olson and General David Petraeus, the commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

"I was pleased to have the opportunity to discuss with American officers the progress we have made fighting extremists in our country and to offer them my thoughts about how our two sides might better cooperate", said Kayani. "Pakistan’s soldiers have fought bravely and accomplished much at great cost. We must honour those sacrifices by making sure our military operations are understood."

Accompanying General Kayani was Major General Javed Iqbal, Director General of Military Operations and Brigadier Muhammad Saeed.

The two sides provided operational updates and also discussed the need for greater infrastructure development, cross-border communication and information sharing.

Though American commanders consult frequently with General Kayani, this was only the third time they have gathered together in this manner, since August 2008.

The Army chief and Air Chief are both present, and notice the FN2000 in the hands of one of the guarding men.

Something big must be going on or planed to be going on in there.

The picture captures the essence of hostile and rugged territory in detail and shows how challenging mounting an operation there would be.

yes FN2000 used by PAFSSW

and yes --these areas must be scouted before such movements could take place as there is always risk of sniper or IED/mine attack. Enemy is a ruthless and desperate one

Rawalpindi - March 17, 2011:

Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, strongly condemns the Predator Strike carried out today in North Waziristan Agency resulting into loss of innocent lives. It is highly regrettable that a jirga of peaceful citizens including elders of the area was carelessly and callously targeted with complete disregard to human life. In complete violation of human rights, such acts of violence take us away from our objective of elimination of terrorism. It is imperative to understand that this critical objective can not be sacrificed fortemporarytactical gains. Security of people of Pakistan, in any case, stands above all.

Pakistan Army condoles with the families whose dear and near ones have been martyred in this senseless attack. Pakistan Army shares the grief of people of Waziristan. Troops on ground have been ordered to render all possible assistance to bereaved families.

Pakistan Army wishes to assure brave people of Waziristan that we shall do our best and utmost to protect their life, honour and dignity at all costs. Pakistan Army is fighting the terrorists and not its brethren in tribal areas.

Pakistan Army has already launched a protest in the strongest possible terms. It has been highlighted clearly that such aggression against people of Pakistan is unjustified and intolerable under any circumstances.
