Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited the desert formations engaged in field training as part of Army Field Exercise. He witnessed the formations undertaking maneuvers involving Corps and Division size defensive and offensive operations during day and night and expressed satisfaction over their battle readiness. He found both officers and men in very high morale and advised them to maintain their combat efficiency. Army Field Exercise being conducted since September 2013 marks culmination of the Azm-e-Nau series of war games and was aimed at practicing the concepts and doctrines evolved over last three to four years.

Earlier, on his arrival at Bahawalpur Airport, Chief of Army Staff was received by Lieutenant General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Commander 31 Corps.

Kayani chairs farewell Formation Commanders Conference

ISLAMABAD: A Special Formation Commanders Conference has begun under the chairmanship of Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfarq Pervez Kayani more than a week before his retirement after he completes his extended term in office.
The Formation Commanders Conference held at General Headquarters (GHQ) will pay farewell Kayani who will retire on November 28, 2013.
Corps Commanders, Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), General Officers Commanding (GOCs) and concerned senior officials would be in attendance to bid farewell to General Kayani. The army chief will give briefing on security, domestic and foreign challenges.

General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani ends his tenure on November 29, 2013, after six years of serving as head of the powerful military. Kayani, known as the ‘quiet general of Pakistani politics,’ was lauded for supporting the civilian government and for his non-interference in the recent democratic transition, especially in a coup-prone nation like Pakistan.

In a speech just before the May elections, he had said a bad democracy was better than the best kind of dictatorship. However, with incidents such as the Abbottabad raid in May 2011, the ‘memo-gate’ saga, the Salala attack, among others taking place under his tenure, speculations were rife that the country came close to living up to its legacy of military rule.

Army rendered 'unmatched' sacrifices against terrorism: COAS

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Friday made a farewell visit to the tribal areas of Pakistan and said that Pakistan's armed forces had rendered unparalleled sacrifices in the fight against terror, DawnNews reported quoting a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The army chief reviewed the progress of the construction of the central trade corridor in North and South Waziristan tribal regions.

Gen Kayani also lauded the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) over the completion of construction work of 500 kilometres of road within a short span of time. The construction of the 714-long corridor in being carried out by the FWO.

Directing the FWO to maintain quality standards, the COAS said that the rest of the road construction should also be completed on time.

Moreover, he paid tribute to the soldiers and officers who had rendered sacrifices and added that the army's struggle against terrorism was unprecedented.

Gen Kayani is set to retire on Nov 28 after leading the army for six years. His successor has not been named yet.

The government has said it will announce the next army chief and chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff committee on the day Gen Kayani retires.

Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Rashad Mehmood and Chief of Logistic Staff Lt Gen Haroon Aslam are frontrunners for the two slots. A change of command ceremony has been planned for Nov 29.
