Even if it does happen Id be surprised if he commits, He is a very proper officer and is not hungry for power.
Normally though, who is next in line??.. or more properly.. who is least likely to question any moves made by the government?

Such is the conduct in Army that no one questions the will of there seniors and that is what makes it beautiful....!

Kayani gets two-year extension in service

Updated : Saturday July 17 , 2010 12:19:57 AM

ISLAMABAD (Ejaz Ahmed): Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has received an extension of two-year in his service, ARY NEWS reported citing official sources.

General Kayani was set to retire on November 28, 2010, but there were already speculations in the media and power corridors that he will get an extension in service as analyst say the continuity in Pakistan’s defence policies is the need of the hour at a time when country is fighting with a homegrown militancy and a U.S.-led war is being fought in its western neighboring country – Afghanistan – in which Pakistan has also a frontline role.

The government has finally decided to award an extension of two years to COAS, while a new post of Vice Chief of Army Staff is also being created, official sources informed the channel.

However, military and government officials are neither confirming nor denying the reports.

A spokesman of the President Asif Ali Zardari, who also is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has expressed his unknowingness of the happening.

“I don’t know whether the Chief of Army Staff has get an extension in service,” former Senator Farhatullah Baber told the channel.

Kayani gets two-year extension in service
I think its normal Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is very young for a chief of army staff, hes just 58 years old. His Turkish counterpart is ten years older than him

He's young enough to carry on his duty...

Read my previous post.
I said that time,
Kayani will surely get two-year extension .
And i was right

.
Next in line should be Lt General Khalid Shameem Wynne unless Zardari decides to appoint his favorite person.Personally I hope the present chief rejects the extension and retires to set a precedent for future COAS.

he is the incumbent CGS

US embassy denies Hillary’s role in COAS tenure issue

ISLAMABAD, Jul 21 (APP): A spokesman of the United States (US) embassy has denied role of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the issue of extension of tenure to Pakistan’s Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).In a statement, he said a national daily newspaper published an article on its front-page on July 20 under the headline “Hillary pleads Kayani’s extension,” with a fictional tale that U.S Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, while in Pakistan, had “effectively lobbied” for an extension in tenure for the Pakistan Chief of Army Staff.

Questioned about her views on the matter during her visit in an interview broadcast on Pakistan TV, and repeated several times on various channels, Secretary of State Clinton said it succinctly:
“This is an internal matter for Pakistan. We have not, and will not, express an opinion.”

The spokesman said the newspaper has deliberately misrepresented the US policy, making this baseless claim of US interference in spite of the embassy spokesman’s direct denial.
