US Armed Forces Commander Transportation calls on Gen. Kayani

ISLAMABAD, Aug 3 (APP): Commander Transportation Command, United States Armed Forces General Duncan J. McNabb on Tuesday called on Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani at General Headquarters.

The visiting dignitary remained with him for some time and discussed the matters of professional interest.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, has expressed deep sorrow and regret over the colossal loss of life and property during the ongoing floods.

COAS stated that the Army is making all out efforts for rescue and relief of the affected people. “Army is working at full pace and capacity to extend maximum help to the people”, he stated.

COAS also announced the donation of one day salary of all ranks of Pakistan Army in Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, established for the flood affectees.

“Furthermore, in the line with their tradition, soldiers of Pakistan Army feel proud in sharing their bread with the affected countrymen and have distributed over 520 tons of rations thus far”, COAS added.

COAS reiterated that the Army will also contribute meaningfully toward rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.

Corps commanders’ conference underway at GHQ

RAWALPINDI: The Corps Commanders' Conference was underway at the GHQ in Rawalpindi on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani.

The conference was reviewing measures taken with regard to rehabilitating the country's flood-hit regions, sources said.

Appreciating the relief activities of the Pakistan army, General Ashfaq Kayani announced that one day's salary of the army will be donated for flood relief. — DawnNews

COAS General Kayani calls on Prime Minster

* PM praises army role in rescue, relief efforts in flood-hit areas

ISLAMABAD, Aug 5 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has appreciated the role of Army personals in rescue and relief efforts in the flood affected areas.

The Prime Minister was talking to Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani who called on him at the Prime Minster's House on Thursday.

The Prime Minster asked Gen. Kayani to focus on the rescue and relief efforts in southern parts of the country as well to save lives of the people.

The Army Chief apprised the Prime Minister about the relief work undertaken by the Army personals and the overall security situation in the country.
 
US defence team arrives for consultations

ISLAMABAD: A US Department of Defence delegation led by the Under Secretary of Defence for Policy Michele Flournoy and acting US Central Command commander Lt Gen John Allen arrived in Islamabad on Thursday for Defence Consultative Group (DCG) meetings with their civilian and military counterparts.

According to the US embassy it is the 19th DCG meeting, which is the primary forum for exchanging views and coordinating defence policy discussions for strengthening the Pak-US defence relationship based on mutual respect, trust and interests.

The last DCG meeting was held in Washington in December 2009 under Pak-US Strategic Dialogue. Under-Secretary Flournoy and Lt Gen Allen both expressed their condolences to those who have lost loved ones in the recent floods and emphasised continued US support during Pakistan’s time of need. app
