Changan to Launch Its SUV and Sedan in Pakistan Very Soon

Chinese EV are as good, if not better than American models.

I think Tesla is still ahead in key areas, while some Chinese EVs are ahead in other areas. But the big picture is that China is building a massive infrastructure for EVs which the US is not. Also, Tesla is the only major US EV player while China has dozens. China is going to be the primary market and driver for EVs and the race won't even be close, that is why Tesla is investing in China big time.

which is essentially the same car
Kya kah raho bhai, its not the same car, there is a hell of a difference between Alto and Mehran.
Pictures of the Chang'an plant, where these vehicles are produced from

Pressing line: 1* 2400 ton pressing machine + 1* 1600 ton + 3* 1,000 ton

Components transported by AGV (automatic guided vehicle, the yellow one), so a higher transport efficiency and less labor cost

Welding shop, fully robotized, zero manual work

Components again transported by AGV (the smaller yellow one in the mid)

Assembly line, the painted car body transported via the automatic conveyor platform

The height of the platform could be adjusted automatically (decided by the specific car model and which components to be installed in the next step), therefore the worker could be working at a higher efficiency

The worker is tightening the screws with the screw-tightening machine. The torque required for each screw is pre-set and performed automatically, so it won't be too more, nor too less.

Assembly line is usually the step with the lowest automatic rate. But today, even the assembly line is gradually robotized. For example, the installation of the wind shield and glueing, it is done by robotics in the Chang'an plant.

This is the main concern of many here. What Master motor who is the partner of Changan in Pakistan is showing Alsvin which they imported from China as CKD which they are not and people are concerned with the difference of finish in a locally assemble car versus its imported counter part. The plant above is fully automated, i doubt if Master motors have incorporated the same level of automation here in Pakistan.

I don't know the situation of Master Motor. But it's more likely to be the situation (at least for the near term) that most (or all) of the car components are made in China and shipped to Pakistan for the final assembly work. So the difficulty of QC (quality control) could be reduced, because the complexity of final assembly is the least one, among the four major steps of car manufacturing: pressing, welding, painting, and final assembly.

Why do they have to import these vehicles? Can’t they be made in Pakistan (rather than assembled) to provide job opportunities for thousands for Pakistanis? Can’t they government help such companies move production to Pakistan? Surely, Pakistan is a country of more than 220-million people with growing middle class, so the demand is clearly there.
All big things start from scratch. There is nothing wrong for a developing country to start its auto industry from assembly.

Take China as the example. China started the Volkswagen Santana Assembly Work in mid 1980s', all the parts were imported from Germany, because China embarrassedly found there was NO qualified domestic components suppliers could meet the standards of VW. But nowadays VW alone produces 4~5 million cars (incl. Audi) in China in a year, with a close to 100% local-content ratio in China. And the vehicles production volume from all brands in China putting together is about 30 million.

Go back to the Chang'an story in Pakistan, if the demand is proved to be big and sustainable, Chang'an will definitely try to build its supplier network in Pakistan, starting from some "easy" parts, e.g. tires, textile covers of the seats, and gradually expand to some more "difficult" parts, e.g. fuel injectors, engine cylinders, transmission cases etc, and eventually even the full engine or transmission to be produced locally in Pakistan.

Changan is great. Its CS75 Pro SUV is the second best-seller SUV in China (sold over 45,000 unit per month), only behind Haval H6 (~60,000 unit per month)
And several new Changan models are really attractive:
Just go to this channel (Wheelsboy) you can find some reviews on Chinese cars, such as:

Japanese cars are the most reliable cars in the world but the Japanese cars that are made in Pakistan are absolute dogshit.
True that Japanese vehicles are really outstanding in their build quality and features but whenever any of them launch their factory in Pakistan everyone tries to cut their corners.
