Celebrations Relating to War with Pakistan

The celebrations of fifty years of victory in Indo-Pakistan war of 1965 would include events like wreath laying at Amar JawanJyoti (India Gate), tri-service seminar / exhibition, victory carnival, musical evening etc.

This information was given by Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Shri C. R. Patil in Lok Sabha today.

It successfully repelled Pakistani thrusts in Kashmir and even though a good part of its thrusts resulted in stalemate, it successfully degraded PA's fighting potential before a politically enforced cease-fire.
Back to the question did PA achieve any of its objectives?
sparking unrest in Kashmir : Success
sparking an insurgency : Partial Success
De freezing the Kashmir issue : Success
Not triggering a full scale war : Failure
Capturing Some Part of Kashmir : Failure
Defending Lahore : Success
Preventing the enemy from taking permanent control on any strategic point : success

1 There was NO unrest in Kashmir after 1965

2 Kashmir is as frozen as it was in 1948

3 You never anticipated the attack on Lahore
The moment we attacked Lahore ; you operation GRAND SLAM was over

4 We did not have any territorial ambitions hence all territory was returned

@Jf Thunder

Have you ever thought what happened BETWEEN 1965 and 1971
and why it happened

If you had NOT attacked us in 1965 we would NOT have done 1971

Yes we successfully repulsed your attack and made you run back like a scared chicken...

Except that Pakistan started the war. Its called operation grandslam. Go read.

It was we that repulsed you, and made you defend Lahore, instead of taking Kashmir.

And 6 years later, you army proved who the scaredy chickens are, by surrendering the biggest surrender since ww2.

1) Sparking unrest: complete failure. All the SSG commandos who came to Kashmir to spark unrest, spent the rest of the war in an Indian prison cell. The locals handed them over to the police, instead of welcoming them with flowers as they had hoped.

The unrest in Kashmir began in 1989, and effectively ended a decade later.

2) To what end? It is better to have an issue in deep freeze, than to have the issue brought up and lost.

3) Right.

4) Right.

5) Really? So defending Lahore was one of the operational objectives of the PA when they started a war? It was their starting of the war itself that brought Lahore under threat. Poking a giant neighbour and then barely escaping with your life is a success only in Pakistan's military academies. Everywhere else, it's called stupidity.

6) Which strategic points did India want to take, before you started the war?

You celebrate having to end up defending Indian thrusts in a war started by Pakistan to get Kashmir?

I would say it was an all round failure for Pakistan and a victory for India. India did not want the war(having just lost a war to China) and despite having a war thrust upon it, it did not yield any land to Pakistan.

Pakistan on the other hand, went from starting a war to capture land to ending up barely defending its most important city.

1) Refer to the book "History of Indo-Pak war of 1965 by Lt Gen Mahmud Ahmed" and you will find that even though Operation Gibraltar did not go according to plan, but our Ghaznavi force (as far as i remember) did create quite trouble for you in areas outside Srinagar, and it was eventually ordered to ex filtrate back, which many of our Gibraltar forces did successfully, it was only after the initial thrust of Operation Gibraltar than Operation Grand Slam began, which would be pointless of Operation Gibraltar had completely failed.

2)Not as frozen as it was during the 1960s.
3)we did anticipate it, thats why our Baloch regiment was sitting there, however, we did not anticipate it during the night of 5-6 September 1965. You did achieve the element of surprise, but it was proven useless
4) wow, just wow, you wanted to keep Haji Pir pass, but were forced to give it back, either your Govt was too dumb, or you were forced to return it back

What are you talking about ?
1. Sparking insurgency ? Even though the Pakistani infiltrators carried guns in 1:3 ratio, no Kashmiri came to fight. It fizzled. Do some reading, by yourself. I will be more than happy to quote you multiple authors, ex-military generals, all Pakistanis.
India did not open the Kashmir issue for years after that.

2. Defending Lahore ? It was Indian counter attack, not the reason for which the 1965 war started. It was a part of bigger Indian objective to capture as much Pakistani territory as possible. India did capture 3 times more territory than Pakistan, estimated 2000 sq. km.

3. You could not prevent your enemy from capturing 2000sq km of Pakistani land, which India used as a bargaining chip in Tashkent.

Australia and Pakistan were part of SEATO or Manilla pact, controlled by the US, created as a part of Truman Doctrine.

It is not hard to understand why such news were being published in Australia.

1) not all, only one force out of 7 was caught completely.
2)nope, it was not lost, we made you realize that it is disputed territory, and that we will fight for it, no need to get comfy.
3)
4)
5)if you know, the GHQ thinks ahead, and it knew that war was coming sooner or later, we poked a giant neighbor, and the giant neighbor got a bloody nose, and we did not barely escape with our life, it was your ally USSR which hosted the peace talks.
6)strategic positions are established during the war, and not before, who knows a completely useless position might become the best place for strategy during a war.

i wonder what Pakistan used as a bargaining chip in Taskkent and forced India to return the alleged 2000sq km territory? like i said, either we had something huge or your government was too dumb.
