Canada May Dump F-35, Open New Competition

I think USNAF should be interested in YF-23
OK and what about the Canada money spent yet on F35 and on other hand F22 production line is stopped as much as I know then what are the possible options left but no stealth aircrafts as US wouldn't be happy if Canada goes for Russian's or Chinese stealth?

Canadian whole air defense system is build with the US systems, and somehow even complex and tangled with the USAF (Using US satellite / Survellance Radars access Or US having base in Canada). So its most likely they have to go to the US system, or atmost European. Canadian requirement is the air defense from its west side, aka Russia, may be china too (very less and that too in future). With the Russia show casing Su-35 and its IBRIS in a grand way, causes the experts to think seriously about the F-35 and its BANG TO THE BUCK worthless.

Thats why not only Japan, but Australia, and now Canada is asking for F-22 to have superiority in the air power. Because Russia could field many flankers on single F-35 cost, and I believe US can allow Canada to have F-22 in small number like say 36, and rest F/18 E/F because they are already operating F-18 and F- series to lower the cost of the commonality and spares and support. Canadian problem is also that the USNAF will start retiring its F-18 from 2030, and Boeing will most probably be making its future bird on the basis of YF-23. So Canadian could get the time period to induct its YF-23 from year 2035.

One more reason is that USAF soon will start using GEN - 6 UCAV, whose subsystems are build and tested disguised behind the F-35 program. So US can now relax its F-22 no export stand for Canada. As far as the money invested in F-35 program is concerned, how much money does Canada have invested in the program. And may be that can be adjusted in the F-22 deal.

Thanks and regards

They should go for F-16V, world's most advanced fourth-generation F-16 on the market today. It comes equipped with a new cockpit featuring a modernized mission computer and other enhancements aimed to bolster combat capabilities. It also has AESA.

Sorry LM is stopping its F-16 for its F-35, and F-16 Block 70 is the last and the most advance F-16 Teen.

Lockheed Martin's F-16V 'Viper' takes maiden flight - UPI.com

FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 21 (UPI) --Lockheed Martin's F-16V "Viper" took flight for the first time, the company announced on Wednesday.

Lockheed Martin says the F-16V fighter is the most advanced fourth-generation F-16 on the market today. It comes equipped with a new cockpit featuring a modernized mission computer and other enhancements aimed to bolster combat capabilities. During the maiden flight, the jet was fitted with Northrop Grumman's advanced APG-83 Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Scalable Agile Beam Radar, the first time for an F-16.

Lockheed Martin's F-16/F-22 Integrated Fighter Group vice president and general manager Rod McLean calls the flight a "historic milestone" for the F-16's evolution.

"The new F-16V configuration includes numerous enhancements designed to keep the F-16 at the forefront of international security, strengthening its position as the world's foremost combat-proven 4th Generation fighter aircraft," McLean said in a statement.

Lockheed Martin's F-16 is a multi-role fighter, and can be found in the fleets of 28 customers around the world. In addition to modernized software and radar technology, the F-16 can also be upgraded to hold advanced weapons, Auto Ground Collision Avoidance System, and the Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod.

Compare it with the F-16 block 60IN, you will get the answer. By the way the production of F-16 will cease from 2017. And F-16V is nothing but the modified F-16 block 60 proposed to get its last order from indonesia, Malasia, and the enhancement is Sabr Aesa, and EW suit, Thats why said Block 70 is the latest and the most advance Teen.

Here is the article from 2012

During a presentation at the Singapore Airshow, George Standridge, vice-president of business development at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics noted that most legacy F-16s can be upgraded to the F-16V standard, which is roughly equivalent to the F-16 block 60.

With nearly 4,500 F-16s delivered, this is a natural step in the evolution of the world’s most successful 4th generation fighter. The Fighting Falcon program has continually evolved as it began with the F-16 A/B as the lightweight fighter then transitioned to F-16 C/D and Block 60 versions as customer's requirements changed.

AESA radars offer significant operational capability improvements. Lockheed Martin has developed an innovative solution to affordable retrofit this key technology into existing F-16s. The F-16V configuration is an option for new production jets and elements of the upgrade are available to most earlier-model F-16s. The upgrade effort does not change the aircraft's external configuration.

At the Singapore Airshow, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon are busy promoting their competing AESAs for the F-16V. Northrop Grumman is the current radar supplier for the F-16, having produced more than 6,000 radars for the aircraft in over 30 years. That number includes 80 earlier APG-80 AESA units for the UAE Block 60 F-16E/Fs. It also built the F-22's AESA radar, and is supplying the APG-81 for the F-35. Raytheon is offering the RACR (Raytheon Advanced Combat Radar), which builds on the experience gained with delivering hundreds of AESA radars into the Boeing Super Hornet program.

Korea has also just issued an RfP for an AESA radar upgrade to its F-16s, and the U.S. government has offered the same to Taiwan as a less politically sensitive response to its request for 66 new F-16s.

The F-16V is intended to satisfy customers' emerging needs and prepare them to better interoperability with fifth generation fighters such as the F-35 and F-22.

As for V upgrades, Standridge mentioned South Korea's requirement to upgrade F-16s and the U.S. Air Force's interest in upgrading 300-350 F-16s.

An F-16 order from Iraq is enough for Lockheed Martin to keep the lines open until the end of 2015

Interesting. Thnx

No doubt F16 advance version is one of the best multirole fighters in 4th Gen but I don't know why the programme will b stopped by 2017 though same can be taken to further stage or is it like this shape, frame or concept now expired and more upgrades couldn't b done?

Also 4th Gen has no comparison with 5th so F16 till now couldn't b match with that and indeed yet it doesn't fill the gap of 5th Gen.

There is no F-16 Blk 70 and the production line is still open for the next few years. Kindly do stop talking nonsense as usual.

I take you words as non abusive,

Since those early days, sharply improved relations with the USA introduced a pair of American planes into the competition, and India’s view of its own needs is changing. Official sources told Jane’s in February 2006 that RFPs would be issued to France’s Dassault (Mirage 2000-5 and Rafale), BAE/Saab (JAS-39 Gripen), EADS/BAE (Eurofighter Typhoon), The American firms Lockheed (F-16 Block 70) and Boeing (F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet), and Russia’s Rosonboronexport (MiG-29OVT with thrust vectoring, aka. MiG-35).

Let Canada check prices of Rafale & Typhoon. They will come to their senses & buy F-35.

Canada don't have enemies so they don't need that kind of equipment immediately they can wait for F-35 till mass production started, till then they can go for solutions like F-15 Silent Eagle or F-18 with its stealthy & Growlers versions (which may suit better).

No open border. Post 9/11, open border agreement was scrapped. You need visa and papers to cross border now. Border crossing looks like this.

Went to New, York in 1999 with my family. Flew into Toronto, drive to Buffalo, then New, York. At that time Customs asked us where we go and why. No papers, no visa. Now, I try again. I need visa this time.

No open border between Canada and America.

Why these restriction on Canada? This may hurt economic cooperation between two nation.

What surprises me is that 15 & 18 have stealthy versions available but LM did not launched stealthy version of 16??? It could have been success because not all countries need 5th gen or could afford them.

DO go beyond what you just quoted. The Blk 70 was "proposed," the aircraft that flew for the MMRCA was the UAEAF Blk 60. And Blk 60 is the most advanced flying version. A further 30 units of, Blk 61 were ordered (by the UAEAF) earlier this year. After delivery the remaining 78 ~79 will be brought up to Blk 61 standards.
