In calender year 2012, India's GDP was valued at $1.842 trillion while Canada's and Australia's were valued at $1.821 trillion and $1.542 trillion, respectively.

The IMF has now projected that India's GDP will fall to $1.758 trillion in calendar year 2013 (a fall of $84 billion), while Canada's will reach $1.825 trillion.

This is the 2nd year in a row that India's GDP has fallen. India's GDP fell by a little over $30 billion in calendar year 2012, compared to 2011.

If we factor in India's recent currency devaluation, the total GDP for calendar year 2013 could be as low as $1.5 trillion, falling to Australia's estimate for 2013. Either way, India will fall either to 11th or 12th place in the year 2013.

Okay cool. Thank You for the news much appreciated.

Hoping for a fast recovery in coming years and touch that 2 trillion mark

Interesting. And what are 1+ billion to 20 or 40 million? Such a comparison should be ludicrously unfair to Canada or Australia.

That being said, we should all be saddened by this news. If not for the nation of India, then for the sheer level of human suffering brought on by such multidimensional poverty.

India is a third world country. It is idiotic to compare it with first world countries. India's GDP is more than Switzerland's. does it make India better? Per capita is what matters.

This is a good point, however GDP does matter in terms of geopolitical power. GDP per capita is what one should worry about regarding living standards. Actually a better measure than both would be GDP (PPP) per person employed.

Otherwise GDP per capita doesn't account for labor force participation or dependency/demographic ratio.

India per capita scores much worse than the 10th-12th place it does in GDP.

Out of 184 countries India scores 138th:

And yes, we all know that India is a 3rd world country. The reason it is idiotic to compare India to a country like Canada or Australia is due to India having 1.2 billion people and Canada and Australia only having around 30 million each. It is unfair to Canada and Australia, not the other way around.

you are stating what is blatantly obvious. what are you expecting out of this thread? you seriously thought you made a new analysis about India's poverty?

Well Indians deserve this...you elect congress and you get this, there is no way around
